The Borthalan is in a beautiful area of Cornwall. We have been visiting Carbis Bay and St Ives for about 40 yrs now. We chose to stay at The Bortalan due to its location and reviews. Owners Martin and Margaret were very welcoming hosts - when we arrived Martin even picked us up from the train station. We didnt have... More

Quiet location, with fantastic views across Carbis Bay. Close to Carbis bay train station, but uphill climb to hotel. Fantastic hosts, amazing breakfast, cleanliness of hotel was excellent. We have traveled around the world, stayed in many hotels, but have never met such friendly and obliging hosts, nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay here again, we felt... More

Margaret and Martin are very accommodating people and kindly collected us from the station, although it is only five, steep minutes away. They insisted on taking us back to the station. The food is excellent and the room adequate although it does need updating including the rather antequated TV. But their willingness to please and effort to make your stay... More

We booked this accommodation over the phone and had an understanding that it was a double room with a sea view. Despite our first impression upon arrival of the garden and the decor looking sad and in need of some TLC we looked forward to staying near to the beach. Our "double room" was on the top floor under the... More

Just got back from the Borthalan on Thurs 3rd June and I must say it was a very nice place to stay. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Their service to us, and all of their customers that we seen during our 4 day stay was excellent and efficient. The location is sublime although a little hilly, but having said... More

We booked this B&B through the good reviews that we read on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. Martin and Margaret (the hosts) were very welcoming and helpful and the breakfasts were delicious. The location was excellent and only a 3 min walk to the station where you can get a train to St Ives for £2 return!!!! (alternatively a... More

Martin and Margaret (the hosts) were welcoming, friendly, informative, efficient and helpful. There was an excellent choice for breakfast. All cooked breakfasts were freshly prepared to order. The room was comfortable, clean, well furnished and nicely decorated but was on the small side. It's not 5 star (No luxury power showers and Margaret has to know roughly at what time... More

We chose this hotel mainly based on the reviews here. We wanted a quiet location, off street parking with easy access to st ives... and got more than we had hoped for. We had chosen a room with a (excellent) sea view, the room itself was not the biggest, but still had a small ensuite & was nicely decorated. The... More

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Bothalan, Margaret and Martin were the most welcoming and accomodating hosts we have ever come across. Hotel spotless and our room was nicely decorated with fantastic sea views. For those who travel by train (like we did this time) the Borthalan is only a couple of... More
