I thought this was good value for money. Even if the rooms are small they are clean and well-maintained. Martin and Margaret are lovely people, friendly, hard-working, helpful. it is a simple, straightforward b&b: good wi-fi, good breakfast, hot water, good location near to railway, carbis etc. I prefer a homely place, run by genuine people to a corporate, bland... My wife and I recently stayed at The Borthalan Hotel. We booked because the hotel has parking, was well located for getting into St Ives by train and was affordable when compared to other hotels in the area which had availability during peak season. The hotel is well located - just a few minutes walk up the hill from Carbis... More

We have just spent 4 nights here and wanted to give Martin and Margaret 5 stars. This is a comfortable clean well run small hotel run by exceptionally hard working people. It isnt a corporate 4 star bland chain hotel with white linen and magazine finishes if you want that then stay somewhere else! We found this hotel a delight... More

We spent 4 days at the Bortholan and our opinion is totally positive. Our room was very nice, not very big to be sincere, but very comfy anyway. It also had such a lovely view over Carbis bay and it was a real pleasure to enjoy it every morning at the wake up. The breakfast provided was really good too:... More

For the 2 of us, it worked out as £530 - that's 6 nights for 2 people including a good cooked breakfast... which is not expensive; considering that the Travel Lodge will set you back at least £75 a night. The bed was very comfortable and from the window, I could see the sea... my only complaint would be that... More

We had high expectations as a result of reading the TripAdvisor reviews of Martin & Margaret's B&B. Whilst booking the trip they were really pleasant and we were really looking forward to the trip. When we got there we were very disappointed. The gardens have not been cared for in seemingly years (they are overgrown and the seating arrangements look... More

Our room was the best they had! cramped, dirty, out of date! On suite is a cupboard in the corner!!! The grounds were overgrown and looked awful. The lock to our room did not work! Everything about this guest house sent us into depression. It is no hotel!! We booked two nights and did not stay one, it was that... More

The hotel is clean and bright and welcoming, the owners are friendly and very helpful. Our room was bright, clean and tidy with a good view of Carbis Bay. Breakfast was very tasty and defiantly plenty of it. The hotel has its own on site parking. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, where there are trains... More

The hotel is clean and bright and welcoming, the owners are friendly, helpful and unobtrusive, and the breakfasts very nice - although we're light eaters, so can't vouch for the cooked breakfasts. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, where there are trains at least hourly into St. Ives - the journey takes only a couple of... More
