They helped us out at the last minute when their sister hotel in Helston had double booked us. The staff were really friendly, our room was large, clean and comfortable with the only issue being out of their control (noisy seagulls!!) due to the beautiful sash windows. Breakfast was fine and although the carpark was small we did not have... More

Visited Penzance with my boyfriend 10 years ago but stayed in a different hotel. We visited the Union every evening during that stay, it was buzzing and seemed to be the place to be, full of interesting locals with a story to tell. So my boyfriend booked to stay at the Union this trip. What a change!! The place was... More

Now and again, you come across a place that deserves a proverbial slap. This is one of those places. As part of a walking group, we spent 2 nights here in mid July. On the plus side the food was good although service was basic as they were clearly understaffed. We witnessed the duty manager shout abuse across the bar... More

Our visit to Cornwall was actually very pleasant and we really enjoyed our stay at the Union Hotel. We thought it was a dream! Cheap rates, decent room and bathroom, free hearty English breakfasts, great central location. What more could you ask for! The manager was friendly enough, his humour of the sarcastic kind but we took it well. Especially... More

We have just had a weekend of Friday to Monday at the union hotel.Rooms are ok dated but clean,The stairs were a bit of a nuisance as I suffer with my breathing but otherwise ok,tea making facilities in rooms all good.Havent visited Penzance in a lot of years but easy enough to get round plenty of shops as we were... Perfect hotel for Coast path walkers; only 6 minute walk downhill to bus station and two minutes from bus stop, so you can get to anywhere on the beautiful North and South Cornish coasts. The hotel's prices are closer to what you pay for a B&B than a hotel and we thought we had excellent value. It's in the heart... More

This is my second visit to The Union Hotel and will not be my last. Our twin room faced the street with a unique view of The Egyptian House opposite. Lets clear something from the start, The Union is not the Ritz; but The Ritz is not The Union either. The rooms are comfortable and adequate for visitors who prefer... More

This hotel is charming with lots of history in the walls. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is very central - not far from the train station. Be aware that there is no elevator, and if you are lucky (!) enough to get a room on the third floor, you'll have to carry your suitcase yourself up all... More

My wife and I cycled on our tandem bicycle from John O'Groats to Lands End in June. Each night we stayed at a different hotel or bed and breakfast. None was nicer or had more character than the Union Hotel, Penzance. At the end of our trip we spent 2 nights at the Union Hotel putting our tandem into bike... More

I'm very glad I never took the time to read previous reviews - at best they are conflicting and I much prefer to make up my own mind. (I've read them now). This is Cornwall and you must expect a Cornish hotel. If you want a glitzy, gleaming hotel don't venture this far west (or continue another 4,000 miles west).... More
