It was a great experience staying here for two nights in Sept 2013. I stayed in a room on the first floor facing the bridge. The hotel is beautifully decorated and has lots to offer whether you want to spend time in your room, the lounge or garden. My room was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom in particular was... We booked a 4 night stay here when we went to Cornwall to see friends living in Penzance, following the good reviews on Trip Advisor. As we had our dog with us we booked The Apartment, a lovely room attached to the hotel with its own entrance. It consisted of a bedroom, bathroom an a living room with a kitchenette.... More

Spending a few nights at the Abbey, what a beautiful quirky cosy hotel! The rooms are pretty big with a lot of character. Very confortable and homely. Superb drawing room with open fire and access to a secret walled garden. The staff is great, efficient and discreet. Being offered a cup of tea and homemade cake whikst sitting in the... More

Knowing the area well, we have heard of The Abbey Hotel and had long anticipated an excuse for a stay. My birthday proved the perfect reason to book The Suite which is in an annex attached to the hotel. This lovely suite of rooms is accessed by a steep staircase from the garden and leads into a small hallway, with... More

I cannot recommend The Abbey highly enough. A great location offering stunning sea views, a comfortable and spacious guest room, impeccably clean throughout, beautifully decorated public spaces, and a tasty and filling breakfast. However, the highlight for us were the staff. Courteous, professional, and attentive, but in an informal and personal manner. Our stay was a thoroughly relaxing experience.

We also had been impressed with reviews and awards given to the Abbey, so booked this hotel as a special treat. We stayed in the 'The Suite" at £250 per night. This is separate to the main hotel. Rates included full english, afternoon tea & news papers. That was sounded perfect, I didn't expect to have to ask for anything!... More

We spoke via email where I went through the faults you mentioned in full. I think it is unfair to say that I 'suggested you were lying or not telling the truth' as I never implied that simply that I didn't always agree with your some of your points of view. My overall point was that many of the issues... More

We'd been impressed by the reviews but were very disappointed. This is really more a b and b with pretensions. What the hotel information doesn't say is that the stairs to some of the rooms are very steep and narrow so difficult for elderly visitors and our room at least was nothing special. The staff were very offhand (breakfast one... More

I can see that you experienced a bad time with us and I'm very sorry. I feel that the staff here are lovely, but it was obviously a bad morning service. We do recommend that the second floor isn't great for elderly people but as we are a listed building we are unable to fit lifts of rails. I can't... More

If you're looking for the uniformity of a Marriott or Hilton, this isn't it thank goodness, if you're looking for a beautiful hotel full of antiques and paintings run like a stay at a country house weekend, this is your place. For more than twenty years Jean Shrimpton and Michael (Cox) and now their son Thadeus have had this exquisite... More

Back again! This time for our wedding night and night after. After a crazy wonderful day is was a delight to sink into the oh so comfortable bed... Where we spent most of the next day drinking champagne and watching the Wimbledon final! As always a great personal feel to the service, divine breakfast and even better than I remember... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Abbey Hotel is a rare gem, a hotel that refuses to enter the modern world, choosing instead to linger in its serenely elegant past.
