The hotel itself is an amazing labyrinthe, where you can roam the corridors for hours and always find something new - the owner was a curator once and everywhere is art and art cataogues and statues, it's awesome. The food is excellent, one of the cooks translated the evening menue by hand, very sweet. The rooms were rather poor -... More

I stayed at the Hotel California for a short, last minute weekend away and I would not return. When we booked in here it was because most places were full and it was one of the last available places in Newquay and I can see why. What I cannot understand though is the price they charge for the (unfortunate) pleasure... More

If you want a hotel where the staff are good but the hotel is shabby then this is your hotel. It does have all the amenities but they're all wore. The room I stay was wore, the reception is a mix match. The best point is the views.but this is Cornwall you expect the views. I'm sorry I don't have... More

I stayed in room 210 and it was shockingly filthy, damp, very 1970's with a cold feel and the shower did not work correctly it was very basic and they never changed any bed sheets the whole time I was there!! at the cost of £123.50 per night, It is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I only wished... More

Stayed at this hotel 30 years ago and to be honest little has changed! Beautiful location on the river bank and close to the town and beaches. Very nice restaurant, good breakfast, very friendly staff. However the rooms are very very tired. Blocked toilet and bath during our stay, telephone doesn't work, constant dripping from roof gutter onto balcony, light... More

The rooms are too small and with appliances from th free 70'sand the worst part is that they don't even work (including the heaters). The only appliances that work in the room are lights and TV(mini TV). The doors will open if the neighbours slam their's. I have stayed in Halifax with similar setup and paid only a quarter of... Suites were of a good standard but rooms were appalling very small, extremely dated with most of the 80's appliances not working, small uncomfortable knackerd spring bed, no hot water and worst of all room stank of sewage coming from the bathroom plug holes! Staff were friendly but despite repeatedly bringing this to their attention the issues were not rectified... More

Don't be fooled by their photos, our room was very tired looking and disappointing and no window in the partitioned off 'kids' bedroom, making it very hot, the sad thing was it would take very little to improve, a coat of paint, new external doors and window and a new bath, the existing partially blocked and rusty around the handles.... Spent 4 nights with our grandson. The lobby was bright and inviting as was the dinning room. Its a pity the rest of the Hotel hadn't been updated. The family room was large and airy - apart from the large opening window being nailed closed. Not sure Fire regulations were being met as had there been a fire in the... More
