The stay was booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we paid extra for a sea view, flowers and chocolates. We also opted for dinner as well as breakfast. The staff were very helpful, especially on arrival providing information on how to reach the town and places to eat and drink. The room was good although a little dated but the... More

We recently spent four nights here on dinner, bed and breakfast. First, and foremost, all the staff are proactive in ensuring your enjoyment. They were all professional, helpful and clearly enjoyed working for the Royal Duchy. The dining room is very elegant. Linen napkins and tablecloths, good crockery and cutlery. It was a pleasure to sit down at our table... More

All opinions are influenced by expectations. Our experience fell short of our expectations. Booking by 'phone was easy, although conformation was not forthcoming until prompted. The Hotel location and parking were first rate. Although we arrived early at the hotel, reception was very courteous and friendly. A pictorial display of staff members and rolls is always reassuring but this was... More

This hotel, owned by the Brend Group is an old one, having been around since 1893. It is in a great location and has seemingly been subjected to a fairly recent refurbishment. We chose a non sea view room, on the premise that, although a view of the sea from one's room is good, the premium rate charged does not... More

The hotel has a great location and is immaculately clean, the decor is a little dated (although it's been recently done) but the staff are this place's real asset. Everyone we encountered, the doorman, breakfast staff, receptionists, the lot, we're professional and genuinely warm, we were made to feel very welcome. We had one meal in the restaurant, which was... More

This may seem a little mean because the Hotel, the staff, the facilities, the restaurant and the food served have so much to commend them... but... The guests can be a bit of a pain. At least on the weekend that we visited it was infested with guests who "believe" that they are upper-class toffs and needed to tell everyone... More

I can't help but compare this with The Belmont at Sidmouth - both are four star hotels in the Brend group, in a similar price bracket and where we had de luxe graded sea view rooms. The Belmont had a balcony whereas the Royal Duchy, where the room was slightly larger, did not but otherwise, the furnishings, décor, cleanliness and... More

My husband and I and my three young boys stayed for three nights here, we were greeted at the door by a charming but love we now know to be called James. He was friendly helpful and very professional, this level of attention was continued throughout the three days. We had an adjoining room as our family of five is... More

Great location staff and food however for business use probably the worst internet connection I have ever experienced. Shame it ruined the stay. In this day and age internet is a basic requirement needs some investment to get it sorted explanation from staff that it was not good did not help unfortunately. Actions more important than words.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Duchy for 6 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our only disappointment was that we had to leave to go back to work. Our room was a back room, overlooking the car park, not a problem to us as the room itself was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very polite... More
