We stayed here for two nights last weekend and we had the time of our lives. As soon as we entered the place, tired after a very long drive from Newcastle, we were greeted by the lovely staff who showed us to our room (room 2) which was at the front of the building . Yes it was noisy from... More

This inn dates back to 1622 and as you would expect has all the beams and features of a building from that period. The inn was in a good position in Chester, close to the river and medieval wall. Our room was on the small side but had all the facilities you would expect. However, the TV wasn't working and one... More

Stayed here last weekend and had a very enjoyable stay. The staff went out of their way to offer the most pleasant stay, the food was delicious and the room was very nice and the atmosphere was perfect. The only minor downside was the shower which we couldn't get hot and although the staff did sort it, the next day... More

My family enjoyed a round of delicious locally brewed ales at this gorgeous pub. The staff were warm and gracious and upon remarking on the size of the large beams spanning the ceiling above was given a detailed history of their history by the server who excitedly explained to us their origins from a Spanish galleon. Later on we were... More

Stayed here for 2nights whilst attending a celebration in their function room. We had room 6 which had the four poster. Room was old fashioned and in keeping with the 17th century hotel. We both slept well. Modern clean bathroom. Only downside was the very poor water pressure in the shower. All staff who we met were hard working professional... More

Lovely pub homemade food was absolutely fantastic loved it We arrived late and they still served us past 8 for tea! Quirky low beams made it nice and cozy too I would recommend this pub for a relaxing belly filling tea Left feeling all de stressed and stuffed 😄

Wonderful pub, really full of character! The staff are attentive and friendly, food was prompt and well presented, tasted fantastic too! The rooms have the same rustic style as the rest of the building with some stunning four posters. Would definitely recommend to friends for a casual drink/meal and especially as a hotel and function room!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid December 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
