We are a group of 12 who meet annually and Chester was selected as this years destination. What a find this property is - the pub is cosy and the accommodation is very clean and comfortable if a bit quirky as you would expect of a property built in 1633. The owner, Harry is very friendly and his staff are... More

Just returned from a weekend break at Ye Olde Kings Head and it had everything we hoped for. Very friendly and hard working staff from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Excellent breakfast and evening meals. Pub and rooms are so full of character, a few bumps on the head from low beams and doorways, all part... More

We stopped by here for tea after a day in Chester Zoo, chose potato & leek soup, gammon egg & chips & beef roast, all very yummy & reasonably priced! I liked the way the young bar man wished us good bye from the bar as we headed out the door too :-) would definitely return

We recently stayed in Chester and visited here for evening drinks on a couple of occasions. We loved the feel of it - very rustic and homely, and we loved the history behind it. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place for a drink or two whilst in Chester. Just a 5 minute walk from the main shopping... More

Booked just from what was said on trip advisor, you weren't wrong, lovely place lots of character. They also pour an excellent pint of Guinness, which shows attention to detail. Staff very helpful and friendly. Never met Peter the ghost.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid December 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
