We've just returned from a most enjoyable 2 night family stay at The Anchor Inn, which we had selected from all the other available accommodation so that we could explore Cambridge. We stayed in the New Bedford Suite which was very comfortable, a king size bed in the main bedroom and a sofa bed in our 'lounge' where our 2... More

We spent a night at The Anchor Inn as a half-way point on a long drive from Paris up to Edinburgh. It's a lovely little place. Nice and quiet and quaint. The food is really good. We had dinner as well as breakfast and it was good, tasty food. We happened to come through when it had been pretty warm... More

Penultimate leg of our 2014 UK Tour. 1200km behind us and the last overnight stay. What an interesting place! Superb location, beautiful small old building with a great deal of history. Basically its a restaurant / pub with 4 rooms above it. "Quirky" would describe it perfectly. Low ceilings, a little outdated all add to the charm. Food was superb.... More

I'm not sure how the Anchor scores only 15th out of 34 in the Ely area. As it is my local I have never stayed there but I eat there all the time. Although I can say that one meal was better than another I can also say that I have never had a bad meal. Will have to look... More

This was our second visit to the Anchor Inn. The previous occasion was in deep snow and the inn provided a warm refuge. This time we visited in the rain! We had hoped for a walk along the river and then a rewarding lunch! However the food more than made up for the vagaries of the English climate. The food... More

Selected The Anchor from Alastair Sawday's Guide for a place to stay after my son's graduation and as a celebratory dinner location away from the crowds of Cambridge. Situated on the banks of the New Bedford River/Hundred Foot Drain [one of Vermuyden's classics] in Fenland west of Ely, it is a wonderful place to relax. Enjoyed excellent beer outside looking... Really nice meal. We had razor clams and scallops to start, followed by chicken with asparagus and vension on rosti. The quality was very high and the combinations of flavours were unusual and effective. It is definitely a high-end gastro pub (it came to about eighty pounds for three courses with wine for two), but it is clearly very popular... More

I stayed here for one night in May. The setting was lovely and the staff were nice. However the car park was tiny and we had to park on the road. The room was tired. It was probably quite nice a few years ago but it needs redecorating. The towels and flannels had seen there best days. They were faded,... More

Superb meal. Okay the restaurant isn't high end decor, having wooden tables and basic decoration. But the food more than makes up for it. Our starters were delicious and the mains even better. Service was good with just the right amount of interest and attention. Next time we're in the area we will definitely eat here again.

The food was excellent , we both had the beef which was cooked just how we like it. We will definitely be back here , it's a lovely spot as well... More
