I think that appartment rentals are the best way to stay in England. You get more space than the hotels, and it affords you more freedoms (washing clothes, eating in, etc) This was in a good location for me to where I needed to go for work, but is about a 1-1.5 mile walk into downtown cambridge.

Our third stay in a YourSpace apartment and everything at Market Rise was to the standard we have come to expect. We felt completely at home from the minute we arrived. The apartment is well placed for visits to Cambridge. We had our conference venue just around the corner, and lots of facilities such as shops, restaurants and cinema nearby.
