Having had a previous positive experience with another YHA, I decided to give Cambridge YHA a try. The rate was fairly reasonable and included breakfast. The hostel is close to the rail station and about a 15 minute walk to the Coach terminus. On arrival, the reception area is somewhat delapidated and the receptionist seemed more keen to try to... more

I stayed at the YHA from May 25-27, 2009 and got room #1, bed 4 (bottom bunk). I had really no troubles at all other than finding it ( I walked past it once before noticing the YHA sign). The front desk was always helpful, if a little bit forgetful. I was able to rent a nice big towel for... more

A dormitory literally means a room to sleep in - imagine my surprise when I found I had to share with 5 other men! When I arrived there was literally no one able or prepared to carry my bags to my room, and can you imagine being given a plastic bag with clean linen in it with which I had... more

Prior to booking we had emailed the hostel to check facilities including parking. Only the information given on the location was correct. Yes there was parking outside but it was time limited and you had to be gone by so early in the morning. We had come from Europe and only had sterling notes and euros. The manager refused to... more

Stayed here with a large group of adults and youngsters for one night only. Definitely in need of refurb and i agree with other comments re shabby but adequate. The staff were very welcoming and the food served was really good. About 20 mins walk into town centre in the evening. Beds comfortable and bedding clean. more

YHA Cambridge is conveniently located near to the train station. The property is tired and shabby in places but it is generally adequate. The main issues are that the kitchen extract fan is very noisy and this is near to the bedroom windows. You should bring earplugs if you want to sleep. The staff on reception actually gave me a... more

I don't normally write reviews on websites but on this occasion I felt I had to to warn everyone else what to expect when booking a stay at this hostel. My colleagues and I were attending a 3 day conference in Cambridge, and having used YHA hostels before, I booked us all in to a 6 bed dorm in the... more

My husband and I had stayed here before and apart from the room being too hot then, we didn't remember much else - we ate out. This time we were back with two kids (7 and 9) and stayed in a/the family room on the ground floor. This was good because we didn't have to haul our bags (we were... more

I came to Cambridge for a Concert back in February, and I had to get to work by 9 the next morning - but the Concert ended later with no time to get to the last train to London, So I booked a bed for the night in the youth hostel. I found the rooms to be nice, the facilities... more

Unlike some YHA hostels, this is a large converted residential property rather than a purpose-built building. All beds are in shared dorms (around 20 rooms, with about 6 beds in each from what I saw) with WCs, bathrooms and shower rooms situated on the corridors. The hostel is 3-4 minutes walk from the station, but a brisk 15 minutes walk... more
