We had another delightful four nights in the University Arms, this time during the hottest week of July. As always, the staff were cheerful and accommodating, and the restaurant food excellent. No pork on the menu one night - why not? - because when the meat delivery had arrived, the chef was not content with the quality. That's the sort... More

The rooms were dreadful - mine was in the eaves and was roastingly hot. The hotel had disconnected all the air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the windows barely opened - they did provide two small fans which were inadequate. My firend's room overlooked the kitchen and was dark and smelly. The hotel staff were somewhat incompetent -... More

Having read some of the reviews my expectations weren't great despite some very fond memories of the University Arms. Apparently the hotel is soon to be closed for refurbishment and restored to its former glory; this really can't happen quickly enough; the magnificent main building that overlooks Parker's Piece deserves better than the unflattering 1960's extension at the front. Decor... More

We stayed here two nights for a college re-union. The location is excellent, close to the colleges and by Parker's Piece. We did note that the hotel was due to close for refurbishment. It certainly needs to. Almost every aspect was looking tired- decor, lifts, breakfast service. Even reception seemed to have taken on the malaise. But that's all irrelevant... More

To start with the positives - it was clean, very clean and it is in a very good location. However, the building really is in need of decoration, the floors are not good, there is no air conditioning and the rooms get very hot. It was also very noisy. You could hear people moving around upstairs and as they passed... More

Four of us stayed here, last weekend, first impression from the outside is horrible and very ugly looking, but when you go inside, it's lovely, it's old in a nice way, it has the old faishoned cage looking lifts, the back part of the building from the outside is beautifull, the front doesn't match the back, our room was very nice,... I have just had my last stay at this hotel before it closes. As an individual and as a family we have used this hotel for last forty years and will be very sad to see in close at the end of September. The staff at the hotel have ways been great and have been a credit to the hotel... More

The University Arms may occupy a prestigious position in Cambridge but the hotel quality is in decline and not up to the standard expected. We parked in the convenient undercroft parking but nobody answered the internal door so we had to drag all our luggage back round to the front of the hotel; not a big distance but it was... More

We were slightly sceptical booking a room here after reading some of the recent reviews so I only thought it was fair to add a review myself. The location of the hotel is excellent, everything to see in Cambridge is within walking distance, we parked our car on check-in and didn't use it again until we left to go home.... More

We were looking for a relaxing break to an historic city, and this deal at 99 pounds to stay at 'probably the best hotel in Cambridge' seemed to good to be true. And it was. The pictures on the website are very misleading as they show one side of the hotel overlooking a pleasant green area. What they do no... More
