Although part of Cambridge University and mainly used as a centre for short courses and conferences it does offer public accommodation as well as catering for weddings and dinners. Set in beautiful peaceful parkland surroundings this is the ideal place for a reasonable priced retreat in close proximity to Cambridge. I have stayed there on many occasions. The rooms, all... So I booked on a fairly last minute basis trying to find something not to outrageously expensive in Cambridge and Madingley Hall fitted that bill. However, despite such a beautiful building and amazing gardens, the Hall is very much an academics paradise and feels like a boarding school or halls of residence. The room allocated was on teh ground floor... More

An imposing entrance to Madingley Hall greeted us, although the sign at the entrance could have been made much larger. Car parking is available at the front of the building to unload cases - the main car park is a short distance away. Our room was quite a way from reception - basic with twin beds, TV and coffee making... More

Visited the grounds and gardens under the NGS scheme.... Superb topiary.... Beautiful lawns.... Immaculately kept. Lovely roses and herbaceous borders. Some delightful walks in the grounds... We wandered through uncut meadows down woodland paths.

The hall is situated in beautiful grounds and our room was spotlessly clean, with the added benefit of free tea and coffee at any time throughout the hall and the staff could not have been more helpful. The grounds are so tranquil and immaculately maintained. There were two functions on during our stay but neither caused any disruption to our... More

Impressive building in fabulous grounds but rooms are very small and basic. Even for a B&B, it's basic and should be thought of as halls of residence rather than somewhere to stay on business. The only reason I stayed was because I had a meeting here the next day. Plenty of power sockets, nice strong shower and free (slow) WiFi.... More

Madingley Hall is originally a Tudor house, though much altered; it's not really a hotel, but the University of Cambridge conference centre, which lets out surplus rooms on a bed-and-breakfast basis, with a discounted rate for Cambridge alumni. The Hall is some distance outside Cambridge, to the west of the M11, set in its own peaceful and attractive grounds. The... More

I felt rather special when I turned in through the gates and rode past the lake, up a gently curving drive flanked by grand trees and carpets of daffodils. Take the chance to walk around the grounds before you settle in for the night. They are delightful. I had booked a basic, single room and it was spotlessly clean and... More

Basic small room in separate area from grand building, it needs to make up its mind what it's trying to be. No restaurant, no lounge, certainly more of a hostel. Pricey for the room and small bed and very outdated small bathroom. The website is deceptive showing a grand old room, not in fact what people are staying receive. Shown... More

Despite the weather being dull the building and its surroundings could still be appreciated. Thought food could be improved with breakfast better than the dinner offered. Noisy doors to rooms which, although well appointed, were let down by very low handbasin.
