I booked three rooms at the Uplands to enable myself, my two children plus partners to watch my daughter take part in the 2014 London Marathon. At £35.00 per night per room, I wasn't expecting luxury. The rooms, as it turned out, were perfectly adequate for our needs. They do need updating, and the layout of the hotel is very... More

I receently had occassion to spend two nights at the hotel on business. I managed to get a great deal through laterooms and was allocated room 71 in the coach house. I agree that some of the decor particularly the bathroom was in need of some TLC but the two nights were two of the best nights sleep I have... More

Spent one night after a last minute booking online. The photos do it more justice than they should - the reception building is lovely and the staff seemed friendly however the rooms really let this place down. Small, and out dated and all had an odd motel lay out - this meant you could constantly hear everybody walking outside your... More

Stayed her for one night. The hotel looks great in the pictures, but behind the main building is what has the feel of being a butlins holiday chalet complex. Room ok, reasonably tidy etc... but feels very dated and run down. Service was alright - although saw a lot of members of staff just stood around chatting to each other.... More

I booked before reading some of the less than generous reviews of this hotel. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised and would certainly return. It is a large building (or set of buildings) set in extensive grounds in the countryside. The room was comfortable and the bathroom a good size. Among the facilities for guests is a... More

I had booked a room for My Birthday on a advance purchase promo deal, It turns out that I could not attend the date I had booked. I have been emailing Simone the GM and this was most helpful. I was treated with professionalism and was made feel extremely valued. I have run a number of hotels myself and likewise... More

Worst night's sleep I think I've ever had. Room 25 with pipes which spontaneously started making a loud drum-roll nose at regular intervals (every hour or so) during the night. When I complained in the morning they acknowledged the problem and clearly knew about the problem. They offered a reasonable reduction in the room rate and did apologise. The hotel... More

Stayed for two nights at the beginning of February. Had an excellent double room with views of the gardens. The room was clean and tidy albeit a little on the small side. Bathroom was fine & shower great. First class buffet breakfast in the morning with plenty of choice. Staff were always pleasant & helpful. Had a nice bar meal... More

1 night business pit stop. Very much an odd mix of good and bad. 2 tips please Put some toiletries in the room and invest in a carpet cleaner. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Oh be sure to put the serving tongs back in the correct place or the waiting staff will have your guts for garters :-)

During recent three-night stay I was very impressed by all staff that I met, being extremely helpful and polite. I appreciate the site may be closing soon and little will be spent on much needed room renovation. However, the quality of food available was very good and this coupled with excellent service made for an enjoyable stay. Well done Uplands.
