Even before the front door was opened at ‘Toad Lodge’ the words ECCENTRIC had passed our lips. The numerous toads and weeds near the front door spoke for themselves as did the dilpidated old vehicle in the drive with a lead coming out. “Hope that’s not the power source my husband” said. The reception (which had an overpowering smell of... more

My partner and I had come up from Sussex to visit some relations, we were greeted by the proprietress Madam Toad and given a very spacious room (room 2, try and get it it if you're staying there). Breakfast was good, and since the weather was fine we spent the afternnoon sitting on the back lawn sunning ourselves. The guest... more

On a holiday to the UK from Australia, we booked all our accommodation beforehand via the internet. A risk perhaps, but all were great except for Toad Lodge. As one other reviewer mentioned, only stay here if short of anecdotes. My husband entertained our families back home with emails of our "Fawlty Towers" experience. Smelly musty room, rude owner and... more

We Stayed at Toad Lodge in August as we were on the Torbay Express Steam train from Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear on Sunday the 24th. Having found it was just 10 mins walk from Redland Railway station we duly arrived & with comments on this site in mind, booked ourselves in & settled into our room. As we Suspected... more

A friend and I booked to stay here for the night after a wedding in Bristol. We arrived to check in before the wedding and were asked for cash on arrival. We apologised that we didn't have any on us but could go to a cash machine and get the money straight away if necessary. We were told there was... more

I booked to stay in Toad Lodge with my mother on 12 April for a family wedding. I didn't find the property myself - one of my relatives did a search on b&b's close to the church and picked this one. I wasn't expecting much for the price, and as we were only staying 1 night, I had prepared myself... more

Only stay here if you are short on anecdotes, and want “an experience”. It is ODD. Toads EVERYWHERE: plastic ones, metal ones, wooden ones, stone ones, concrete ones. Even the toilet paper holder was a toad. The dining room was full of Egyptology. Maybe this is charming. Recommended an Italian restaurant which was very unpleasant. Room very basic, but everything... more

I booked a three day stay prior to leaving for japan, upon my return from Tokyo I contacted the owner from London Paddington to confirm that I was arriving as per my reservation and was told that everything was fine. When I arrived at toad lodge I had been traveling for more than 20 hours. To my dismay they had... more

Stayed here for one night as i was watching cricket just down the road. Paid £33 for a spacious room inc breakfast. Slightly out of date but very comfortable and clean. Helpful lady in charge and good location. Didnt stay for breakfast but even so still pretty good value for a place close to the city centre. more
