We have just returned from a 2 night break at The Peacock, on a Dinner, B&B basis. The hotel is delightful - a beautiful, stylish, comfortable hotel with a cosy bar and attentive staff. The food was fantastic, each course at dinner was a delight and we can't wait to return, all in all a top notch experience. The only... More

A welcome break from standard business hotels. The service is attentive but not intrusive, the food excellent (particularly as there is a choice between the reasonable food in the bar and "fine dining" in the restaurant). The rooms are spacious, characterful and spotless. The evening "turn down" service is unusual these days. Something of a "home from home" - the... More

We stayed at the Peacock for just one night last month, but were very impressed and happy with our stay. Although not cheap at £185 per night which included a very adequate cold buffet breakfast (hot breakfast was more which we thought was a bit cheeky given the room price), the room was very nice with a very tastefully modernised... My partner and I were entranced by the Peacock, for the food, wine, ambience and service particularly. We are both foodies and wine-buffs and dined at many Michelin-starred restaurants over the years. The food here certainly matches up to this level of fine dining. In addition to the wonderful food, the wine was excellent, and the bar area the perfect... More

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times in recent years and always make a point of returning whenever I am in the area. The most outstanding feature is the quality of the cuisine - the evening meal has been truly memorable each and every time, while the breakfast spread is also impressive, but beware the optionals like... Past concerns about service have clearly been taken to heart - it was excellent at every level. The restaurant offers good cooking, although the menu does not seem to be changed too often, but I wonder whether the London prices are not considered steep for a good but not outstanding provincial restaurant. Two drawbacks: several reviewers have commented on the... More

I have stayed at the Peacock on a number of occasions. It’s a very old building so many of the rooms have things like very old windows, it would be very odd and out of character if they did not! The room was big enough and had everything that was needed. The bathroom only had a shower but was plenty... More

Having read glowing reviews of The Peacock, we were looking forward to a luxurious break in this country boutique hotel. Disappointingly, our room was the size of a matchbox, there was a gap between both bedroom door and frame and the bathroom resembled a cupboard. To our surprise there was no sign of a bath (slightly deceptive as we had... More

The previous reviewer sums up a few of the niggles about this hotel quite well - the very hot bathroom towel rail (we got them to turn it off and the room was still plenty warm), the lack of Aveda conditioner, the rather hardy carpet in the bedroom which was not very forgiving underfoot etc. For us though these were... We booked a few nights at the Peacock to celebrate our anniversary in a low key way - we weren't looking for glitz and glamour but just wanted a comfortable, easy place to stay with great food and a bit of style. The location is, as others have noted, immediately on a busy main road, though surprisingly, this didn't disturb... More
