We were surprised that this was the top ranked hotel in Waterton. The place is tired and in need of a facelift. Family of 4 squished in to a small room. The good: - cool old structure with great wrap around deck, comfortable beds (although small), great water pressure, quiet, clean. The bad: - minuscule bathroom with a gross old... More

This house was built by the same man, Louis Hill, who built the Prince of Wales, so it is old and space and room layouts reflect that. The owners have tried to make the most of that without removing its history. The owner is the most welcoming hostess ever! She told us about the house's history and was amazingly congenial... More

Thank you for your comments, all of our reviews are important to us and we follow them closely. While the Northland Lodge was one of the largest homes built in the park in 1928, it is small by today's standards which is noted on our confirmations and by almost all of the reviews written. What we lack in size we... More

Short version: unique location within the town; comfy/homey property and superb host. Detailed version: we just spent 6 nights at the Northland Lodge and loved it. Waterton Lakes NP has "all the beauty but a fraction of the crowds" and we actually ran out of days to do all the hikes and paddles we wanted to. Northland Lodge, in turn,... More

We stayed in Bessie's room this year and it was great. Two adults and two young children. Very clean. Friendly and welcoming staff. Room was comfortable. Sink in the main living area and the kids loved it! Easy walk to the town and Cameron's falls. Quiet at night. No fan in the room which made it a bit stuffy but... More

A resident of Waterton Lakes Village summed it up well: 'visitors come to Waterton Lakes National Park for the scenery and wilderness, not because of the accommodation and restaurants'. For both, be prepared for national park prices. The village is enveloped within the mountains and only minutes away from the foothills and prairies that dominate the Alberta landscape to the... Stayed here in August 2015 during a road trip between Denver and Vancouver. We loved it. Location is great and the owners are super friendly!! Rooms are very authentic and we had the feeling sleeping over at a friends house. Complimentary breakfast consist of amazing muffins and hot coffee served in the shared living/ lounge area. Here you will meet... More

I visited for one night with my wife and our two middle school-aged children. We stayed in one room. The proprietor was friendly. She welcomed us, did a few loads of laundry at a reasonable price, and made a dinner reservation for us. But this is a B&B: not a hotel and not a lodge. It's a house, in a... More

The Northland Lodge was my favorite of the two places we stayed in Waterton Lakes. The color of the room, the locale (within steps from woods and a waterfall), the balcony and porch, the warblers and hummingbirds surrounding the place, the delicious fresh muffins in the morning and, most of all, the crisp, line-dried sheets made me happy -- as did... I would describe the Northland Lodge as a Bed and Breakfast. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. There was no a/c or tv in the room, but it did have a ceiling fan and very good wifi. Our host was very nice and the breakfast muffins were delicious.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2015

We have stayed at Northland Lodge every year for decades. We meet the most congenial people at this lodge, many of them are also repeat guests. Nothing better than making a fire and chatting with new friends about the day's adventures. Historic building, so you must be adventurous enough to make do with a small room and some rooms have...
