We were staying in a cottage at Kirk Ireton to let in the New Year. We wandered into the Barley Mow which is just as it is described in the other reviews. Very Quirky with a small hatch where the beer is served from a jug. Only enough to seat about 20 people but everyone was very friendly. At about... More

The pub is a wonderful experience with 'unspoilt' not doing it justice. If you like chain pubs this probably isn't for you but the Barley Mow with its beer from the casks (no food - the community shop is next door) is a wonderful place to while away the hours. I stayed overnight in one of the rooms across the... More

We stay near here quite often and always look forward to a drink here, it is like stepping back in time when you walk in with just four tables (there are benches outside) and the small bar in the corner. With a small choice of real ales and cider that are served from tapped barrels on a shelf behind the... More

Just a great pub, unchanged over the years, clearly very much a 'local' pub, but equally friendly to passing trade. Beer well kept and served from a jug. They don't serve food, but if you know that it's not a problem. Nice benches out the front to sit and watch life go by in the village. We only get over... More

A visit to this old pub is like stepping back in time to the 17 or 18 century. The main bar is just one room with low beams and a fireplace , seating maybe 30 people. You get your drinks from a hatch in the corner and beer is served from a jug. The elderly couple who run it are... More

We stayed in The Barley Mow Inn on Friday night as we went to wedding in Kirk Ireton and this was the nearest accomodation to the venue.the room was pleasnt, the breakfast excellent, but what we found most fascinating is the pub and the building.you feel you are back in a different era.the landlady(Mary)and her daughter were friendly and Mary's husband told... Popped in for a couple of drinks with the wife and it's a great little pub, landlady was very friendly, it's one of those pubs you want to find out everything about its history, very original unspoiled pub. Had a couple of lovely beers straight from the barrel. Loved it.

Now part of the quirk of this place well is just everything. From Mary behind the bar, beer from a jug, of from the keg behind the bar. A parlour pub from a different era, the national trust should really consider it as it should never be consigned to any new trend. If you don't like the staff, the beer... More

The previous reviews sum up the Barley Mow perfectly. It, as the advert says, does exactly what it does on the tin. It's a pub. Simple. It serves the freshest local beer direct from the barrel for a price that makes those of us who reside in Oxfordshire weep at. We walked in at 1230 on a Sunday afternoon to... More

Fabulous pub where the beer and cider is served from jugs and handpumps are a thing of the distant future! It is brilliant and the whole place is in a time warp to the 17th /18th century. We loved it! If you want luxury go somewhere else, but the quirky owners and great beer made this a real treat we... More
