Fabulous pub where the beer and cider is served from jugs and handpumps are a thing of the distant future! It is brilliant and the whole place is in a time warp to the 17th /18th century. We loved it! If you want luxury go somewhere else, but the quirky owners and great beer made this a real treat we... More

An amazing pub Stepping back in time to when pubs were not full of flashing lights loud music and modern paraphernalia Beer is local real ale and well priced. Food basic but exactly what you'd expect in a place such as this. Well worth a visit Regularly.

We called in advance to see if it was possible to book a table for lunch which we were rudely informed you couldn't do. Probably the first warning. We were taking a walk and this place had been recommended for its good beers, which we cannot not fault. Shame the lady behind the bar looked miserable and couldn't crack a... More

We moved to the area recently and were delighted to find that this is now our local pub. Cosy, intimate surroundings with excellent cask ales, some served from a jug by Mary, the landlady here for 50 years. If you want a juke box, fruit machines and flashy décor you'd best not come.

A visit to the Barley Mow is how pubs used to be, before 'gastro' became trendy. Great value traditional beers served from the barrel into a small cosy bar from a serving natch. Wonderful place to enjoy good beer, with friends !

Entering this pub is like stepping through a time portal. It has been a pub continuously since 1753 and looks like almost nothing has changed since then. A roaring fire and being served through a serving hatch with beer poured from a jug by a slightly stern lady behind the bar was all part of the charm. It is small... More

most things modernise over time but not the Barley Mow. That's its attraction and charm. The accommodation is fine, the breakfast excellent but the real appeal is the pub that never changes. Good variety of beer all served from a jug. No fruit machines just room for discussion with your friends and neighbours. Just what a pub used to be.... More

We walked 1.5 miles from the Carsington Water campsite and couldn't believe the timewarp that greeted us as we opened the door. The Jacobean wood-panelled bar had a fire blazing (a chilly end of August night), bench seats fitted round the whole room and 3 tables made of slate from an old billiards table. The landlady serves from a hatch... More

In the middle of nowhere, and a fabulous old worldy pub! No cash registers, beer out the barrel / jug. Stone floors, log fires, wooden beams. 2 sisters run the pub and serve you in a small window. They don't smile or make conversation mind - probably counting all that money they make has made them zombiefied! Great choice of... More
