I stayed here with 5 friends for 4 nights as we were cycling round the area. It is fairly remote but it is an excellent place to stay. Mike the owner is very friendly and welcoming. The food is fantastic. Dinner choices are good. We had a Vegan with us and he was well catered for. The breakfast is made... More

This is a lovely place to stay. A beautiful rural setting well away from main roads but an easy drive to Hay on Wye. We booked three rooms for a family occasion and each one was very comfortable with lovely views. Excellent for walking and fishing. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we felt 'at home' in the best possible... More

Another wonderful three night stay. Glorious weather to sit in the beautiful garden and just relax. The food, the beer and the company superb. Wander up to the church and then down to the river or visit Brobury House Gardens which are beautiful. Advise using the car as the entrance has a cattle grid which the dog jumped over to... More

We're so glad we chose to stay here instead of in Hay itself. Don't get me wrong we love Hay and it's annual festival and usually stay close by, but staying at the Red Lion gave us chance to escape the crowds and explore some more of the area we'd not have seen otherwise. The hotel is an old country... More

This old hotel is in a very peaceful and rural location and offers individual character. We had a lovely room with a separate sitting area. What most impressed was the delicious food, which was home made and very reasonable. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough.Cross into the orchard and walk to the old church where Kilvert lived. Wonderful!

Lovely country hotel between Hay on Wye and Hereford. The food is amazing. It's in a great position for walks in the the black mountains, and sitting on the bank of the River Wye to fish. We have visited numerous times and keep going back.

Where do I start! I got the start day wrong which caused great amusement to everyone staying at the Red Lion, but hey ho! Everyone was very friendly and we were made to feel at home, that was Mike the owner all the staff and the other guests. There was 'a lot' of fishing talk and much good banter over... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Red Lion Hotel is situated in the tiny hamlet of Bredwardine, which nestles on the banks of the River Wye just twelve miles from Hereford, and 8 miles from Hay-on-Wye.Built of red brick, its origins lie in the seventeenth century when it was used as a coaching inn, also the lounge bears the name The Courtroom. This is where the circuit judge of the day used to sit in judgement. Our aim at the hotel has been to provide you with a peaceful haven in the tranquil heart of England away from the hustle and bustle of work and every day life. Whilst every effort has been made to combine this warm, congenial atmosphere with all the comforts and facilities of a modem day hotel, you will find that the Red Lion retains much of its old world charm including oak beams, and beautiful antiques with blazing log fires through the winter months. The reputation of our dining-room relies on well prepared home-cooked food, using as much fresh produce as possible and cooked to order by our highly regarded chef. You can choose from a varied range of meals off our menus, whether its at breakfast, lunch time or in the evening and remember to look out for our "Specials" board.Whilst situated in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas in the country there are a whole host of things to do and enjoy. These include Herefords Cathedral and the famous Mappa Mundi exhibition to the local Small Breeds & Owl Centre and of course a visit to Herefordshire would not be complete without a trip to Bulmers Cider Museum and for the more active amongst us canoeing down the magnificent river Wye.What ever the reason for your visit we are here to help you enjoy your stay and our beautiful county. ... more   less
