Charming, quirky, comfortable and clean! This century+ mansion sits atop a hill overlooking the water. The 3 course lobster dinner we had on our first night (only $25.00pp) was one of the loveliest we have had anywhere. Lobster cooked to perfection with melted brown butter, a green salad and potato salad accompaniment and delicious cake, sauce and ice cream for... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at the Marathon. It's comfortable and clean. Our charming room had everything we needed. Every member of the staff is super friendly and efficient. We were lucky to be staying there at the same time as a Roads Scholar group so the dining room was open for supper. We absolutely loved our dinners... More

Thank you for the lovely review JS787! We are elated to hear that you had such a great time with us, and that you had a chance to enjoy some of Jim's dinners. We actually only have five rooms with claw foot tubs, the rest have showers or tub/shower combos. So if they're something you're into, you are going to... More

Grand Mann is a working island. Tourism makes up 5% of the economy. The Marathon Inn reflects this reality...old, wooden and charming...surely not a boutique hotel. Jim, the inn keeper, makes the place special. He cooks the food, drives the bus, makes all arrangements and tells the most delightful stories. We had stayed there some years earlier and i remembered... More

What a wonderfully charming place to stay. We descended on the Marathon Inn with a 16 person hiking group. Jim, the inn keeper, advised us of great places to explore, had a solid knowledge of the island's history, flora and fauna, was a fantastic cook, and, as we learned during our stay, turned out to be a great drywaller. The... More

At almost 150 years old, the Marathon Inn shows every sign of its age, worn and well-used, but it fits like your favorite old sweater---maybe a little baggy, darned and re-darned, with scuffed leather patches at its elbow---that you can't wait to put on in the evening after work. Don't even think about staying here if it's Four Seasons or... More

Intersting old place with great stories of hauntings and the like. Old claw foot tub, floor not level. It was one of those eclectic experiences but I wouldn't go back to stay. Probably was wonderful in it's prime.

I stayed in a private hostel room which was vintage. The second floor bedroom had a window overlooking the harbor, adjoining private bath with an old fashioned deep bathtub with a hose to rinse off. Plenty of hot water, another window overlooking the field in back. The legs of my bed, because of sagging floors, were propped up to make... More

This hotel is unique and is not really in a great state of repair but that's what gives it its character and charm. If you are looking for luxury you won't find it here but you will find a warm welcome and a lovely atmosphere. The breakfast was excellent and Jim the owner was absolutely charming and went out of... Thinking the "annex" might be a newer addition I booked a room for one night. The building itself is very old an in disrepair with a mix of 1800's and 1970's furniture. The floor is so slopped that a glass slid completely off a dresser and smashed on the floor. I love old but I actually felt bad the place... More

When we went in the 1990's we made some great friends and had a super time, the food was first class, but like many have said if you want fancy rooms and even floors then go elsewhere. However, if you want a nostalgic feel and character, I'd highly recommend it.
