Heard about this place when I first got to Lesotho but only got the chance to go there now . The place is only about 120kms from maseru but the journey is longer than you would expect mainly because a good section of the road is still under construction. A four wheel drive vehicle is probably a good choice. The... More

I went to Semonkong last July and stayed at this lodge for four nights then (My initial plan was only meant to be for one or two). It was simply because I found the lodge very cosy with great surroundings and nice people. I've been travelling for a few years now and the dorm at this lodge was one of... More

the 4 hours drives from Maseru was so worth it. the road is being repaired and it would be a shorter journey. the long hours were worth the lodge and surrounding areas. you need to take your best camera so you can take photo along the journey and when you get to the lodge and your trip to the waterfall.... This lodge caters for all budgets, from camping through backpackers to comfortable, well appointed chalets with fireplaces. My special treat was the early morning tea and coffee served to the chalet. Located on the river (prolific bird life), the attraction for us was wild river trout (one of the only rivers in southern Africa). Local guides are available to accompany... More

The Semonkong Lodge is located in a beautiful mountain town in southern Lesotho. Throughout the country, there are many such lodges and I have visited most, but none other than the Semonkong Lodge goes the extra mile. It's the free portable water they put in the rooms to the wonderfully prepared and scrumptious meals they serve in the dining room.... More

The way to Semonkong might be hard and takes a lot of time due to the bad road. But I think we would have missed something if we didn't go there. It's a clean and calm lodge. Not too comfortable, but cheap and the staff is friendly (like all Basothos). And the restaurant is more than excellent! We did camping... More

The lodge's facilities are very nice. We stayed in the dorms, which had large fire place and plenty of wood. The bar/restaurant is great (amazing for Lesotho). The donkey pub crawl is hysterical. Try not to fall off, but it just might be inevitable. The town itself is desolate. The nearby waterfall, canyon and countryside is jaw dropping gorgeous.

Okay, so the road is a bit of a challenge, but worth every little swearword and bump en route! Get to this little lodge in the mountains soon, it is probably going to change drastically by 2014. Why? Simply because a tarred road is being constructed which will open up this part of Lesotho to less adventurous travellers and all... More
