Oh what a lovely stay we had at The Old Excise House. Emma and Ron are an absolute delight, nothing is too much trouble, they obviously love what they are doing. The room (we had the Texa room with a shower) - very comfortable, light, airy, a wonderful view, and delightfully decorated. Then there is breakfast..... Emma bakes something new... More

We've been here before and it was the best B&B we'd experienced - worldwide. So good we came back for longer and "we were not disappointed" just doesn't cover it. It's difficult to put your finger on the best attribute. The rooms are fantastic, both with great views (where else can you take a bath with the chimney of Laphroaig... More

We booked to stay here as a couple and then friends decided to join us so we had both beautiful rooms for three nights. It is a special place, both for the location and for the way you are looked after. Both ensuite rooms are lovely, comfortable, impeccably clean. Even better is the way Emma and Ron welcome you. Emma... More

There are two rooms at this wonderful B and B that is within walking distance of three of Islay's distilleries. Emma's homemade breakfast were wonderful. She makes great homemade scones and breakfast pastries. She was also very helpful in making dinner suggestions and reservations. The rooms are quiet and are situated upstairs in the home. Both she and Ron have... More

What a wonderful place to stay on Islay. The accommodation is fresh, impeccably clean and well-presented, the food is either home-made or sourced from local or known suppliers and the welcome and hospitality is warm and friendly, as well as professional and conscientious. The room is airy and light, with nice homely touches and providing a view along the coastline... More

We stayed for three nights at the Old Excise House on Islay and were sorry to be leaving so soon. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, by Emma, who ensured we were comfortably settled in to our gorgeous room with it's stylish en-suite. The welcome got even better when we tasted the home made shortbread waiting for us; gorgeous baking... More

This is where you must stay on Islay. 1. Because of Ron and Emma. They are so kind, so generous, so utterly lovely and welcoming. They have taken the B&B and raised it to a true art form of hospitality and kindness. We arrived and they asked if we would like some tea-- when we said yes, Emma brought up... More

Having stayed here before we knew what to expect and certainly weren't disappointed. Emma and Ron are great hosts and just lovely people. The rooms are first class with very comfortable beds and Emma's breakfasts are superb. We'll be back for more!

Just stayed here for three nights and have to say what a fantastic place this is. Ideally located on Islay for ease of getting around and seeing whatever it is you're on the island for. Within hours of arriving and only a ten minute drive from the Old Excise House we'd seen numerous deer and a seal catching some rare... More
