Odd configuration as it shares spaces with medical and other offices, confusing entrance. Other than that, very nice hotel. Well-appointed, wonderful staff, good restaurant. AND outstanding spa attached.

Positives: Good location by the Saguenay Rapids, friendly staff with varying degrees of English ability (having some French definitely helps), good food in the restaurant. Negatives. Hotel appears to date from around 1970 and looks like little has been updated. Thee was a big scorch mark on the carpet in our room, the veneer on the dresser was worn off... More

We stayed at the Hotel Universel for the first night of our cycling trip around the Veloroute des Bleuets. This hotel is situated in a nice part of Alma, right alongside beautiful river rapids. The restaurant in the hotel was fairly good for lunch/dinner, but breakfast was pretty ordinary. One problem we encountered was that the apparently paper thin walls... More

We had pre-booked this hotel before we came to Quebec and when we parked outside it, the hotel looked like a rather uninviting 'block house'. It is certainly not an attractive building. But we are very glad that we stayed here. The 'front of house' staff were extremely charming, efficient and helpful. The room was comfortable. And we had an... More

Stayed here for two nights on business. Wasn't many options to select. The hotel itself is fine, very basic I found, I had a standard king room. The bed I found very hard and didn't sleep comfortably. I would make sure that your room is not near the maid station as they start around 6:30 and do not seem to... More

Did not intend to stay here but after a very bad experience at another hotel this was the only available property that day and I am so glad I found this wonderful treasure. The front desk, the restaurant staff and the cleaning crew were all very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was superb, a highlight of my stay and the... More

We paid a premium rate for a suite located on the ground floor, facing the parking lot. The suite featured a king bed, average-sized bathroom and to our surprise a conference room which we had no need for. The air conditioner was noisy, the windows did not open and the room had a musty smell. Breakfast was not included. We... More

The room was fine. Our little boy was happy to have a big bed for himself. The hotel is close to the river, where you can walk/bike. Located downtown, this also gave us access to many restaurants by walking distance.

My wife and i just spent two nights here, and i can recommend the hotel. The rooms are spacious, well appointed and very clean. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool with jacuzzi. There are two restaurants. We only went to one, Le Bordelais, which we like very much both for breakfast and dinner. The check-in with fast and the... More

The hotel is well located, right in the center of the city. You can easily walk to the various nearby restaurants (on a Monday night in early June, many of the restaurants were closed or their kitchens were closed) or take a walk along the water. The hotel itself is OK. The room was fine but could definitely use a... More
