If the Swag Hotel in the Smokey Mountains near Ashville NC remains my standard for lodging perfection (unpretentious luxury), Cathedral Mountain Lodge near Emerald Lake, British Columbia begins to enter that exalted range. On that scale, from AMONGST THOSE RATING 5 stars for "perfectly wonderful", Swag is a 10 and CML is a 6. VERY high praise. For beauty of location... More

My fiancee (now wife) and I spent a few nights there in 2013 and were delighted by the whole experience, aside from one incident where I heard a supervisor talking about a staff member behind their back to another staff member. As a business owner, this didn't settle with me on many levels. What made it more upsetting was that... More

The facade and people were great. There are a few problems that can be easily fixed to make it the quality it pretends to be. The easiest is cleanliness. Dust on surfaces, pre-existing what looked like toothpaste on a handle that was not removed for two days. I couldn't believe it so just cleaned it myself the third day. Sounds... More

Stayed one night in early July en route from Calgary to Jasper. Room rather cramped and noisy - fan in kitchens? could be heard with cabin windows closed. Traffic noise also noticeable over the white noise of the river. Was hoping given the location for quiet and darkness after sunset but they leave lights on all night in untaken rooms... More

The Lodge is situated in a lovely wooded setting and while the cabins are small, they do have all you need for a short stay. The restaurant is very good, great food and really, helpful staff. We enjoyed our two night stay in September 2014.

We booked an overnight stay at Cathedral Mountain Lodge because it was on our route and owned by the same company as our favorite Moraine Lake Lodge. Staff were friendly and the accommodations were clean and well appointed. However, we found our Deluxe King Cabin to be VERY tight on space. Noise from the Trans-Canada Highway and the CPR mainline... More

We stayed here for five nights in Sept 2014. We booked a Deluxe King Cabin and were very disappointed with the size of the cabin. (Cabin 8) The cabin looked lovely both inside and out and the setting was great, we could even hear the river from our cabin. The cabin was too small to have a king size bed... More

This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this out of the way Lodge. It is completely worth the little extra drive through scenic Jasper. It was about 1.5hrs drive from Banff. Both times I stayed here (2006 and 2014) have been a great experience, and the cabins showed no signs of age or wear - still felt like a... More

First of all, I rarely give a five star rating to a hotel unless they are an ultra posh resort hotel where you should expect five star service....but Cathedral Lodge earned a 5 star rating! The location is amazing! CML is not a huge sprawling resort like the Chateaux at Lake Loiuse. The larger resorts have massive amounts of tourists...tour... More

This must be our 8th or 9th stay at Cathedral Mountain Lodge, starting years ago when the original accommodation was group of converted miner's cabins. The old cabins are long gone replaced by up-scale tastefully furnished purpose built 1 – 2 bedroom cabins. The premium cabins have a proper fireplace and there's lots of firewood for a cozy fire at... More
