I stayed at the Fairmont as a half way location between Boston, MA and Pictou, NS. After reading the reviews, I was a bit hesitant; however, the hotel is located on a lovely hill overlooking the beautiful bay and quant town of St. Andrews and provided a great vacation stop. The check in was smooth and we were offered a... more

The old world charm of this property is what one must bear in mind....the Hotel is "tender" in its old age in places but overall is a wonderful place to experience the roaring twenties. Indeed, the Hotel has cracked paint on windows and other minor blemishes but these are to be expected in a seasonal seaside property which has been... more

I had planned a trip with a group of buddies for a golf weekend. We had stayed at the fairmont last year and had a great time. This year we were looking forward to a repeat. We arrived at the hotel to check in, only to find out that the hotel was booked. I had made the reservations 6 months... more

We were most disappointed with our Deluxe Queen room especially the mold on the bathroom ceiling and walls. While the staff were extremely helpful...there was not enough of them to adequately service a hotel of that size. Perhaps it was because we stayed during the last week of August but room service trolleys littered the hallways well past 10 am... more

This old, grey mare just ain't what she used to be! We were totally looking forward to staying at the Fairmont Algonquin as the last leg of our 10-day Canadian road trip. Previous posts on this site were so complimentary, we felt this was to be a sure winner. Boy, oh boy, were we dissapointed! Granted, the setting is lovely,... more

We stayed at the Algonquin as part of a package purchased through the Bar Harbor Cat. Arriving in St. Andrews By the Sea, we were overtaken by the sight of the hotel in the distance. The hotel occupies the highest point in the town. Our room was in the original building, there is a newer building that has a/c but... more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED it!! It was like going back in time. Felt like I was in the 1920s or something. Huge porch with grand columns - we sat and played cards while having a cocktail, with the cool ocean breeze blowing. It was soooo lovely. Then we went... more

The Algonquin is a historical property which has managed to keep its charm which offering modern services and amenities. My son and I stayed there for one night while on a road trip through New Brunswick. St. Andrews By The Sea is certainly a charming village with lots to see and do. The Algonquin makes for a memorable stay. However,... more

The Algonnquin is an older hotel, and a ideal location. It is next to the Kings Brae gardens, near a lovely playground, and a reasonable walk to town, even for a 6 year old. The check-in process was smooth, and the kids had there own check-in spot at which they were each given a stuffed whale. The rooms were nice,... more

Even though there were only 5 people staying the night we were there (in 3 rooms), we were only charged $99 for the room, which was very large with a dining area, small kitchenette containing a fridge and microwave, and a beautiful view. Parking and internet facilities were free (which can easily add to the cost in many other hotels.)... more
