We were on a day trip from St. John's and stopped for lunch at the hotel with our tour group. They served us lunch in the sun room. Not only was it a perfectly beautiful setting for lunch, the food was AMAZING. The Seafood Chowder was the best I've ever had. The turkey sandwiches on fresh rolls and the gigantic... more

What a splendid old heap of a place. I doubt it's changed much in the last 50 (70?) years. And therein lies its charm, as well as its issues. It's huge, sitting on elegant grounds at the top of a hill. The public rooms are a tribute to a less hurried, less fancy style of resort. We loved breakfast on... more

Avoid at any cost the room No 336, it is badly insulated which mean that you hear the elevator all night and people coming up and down the stairs, in the room the TV does not working properly, the light swith for the room is outside the bathroom which extremely anoiying and for 200$ a night, i would have been... more

This hotel deserves a visit for the history if nothing. Can't be too harsh as age commands respect. Staff is young and far too casual for such a stately property. Not on par with other Fairmont properties, maybe neglected by head office. It has promise but needs some nurturing more

The hotel consists of the original old main building along with a new wing(1993). The original hotel was once very beautiful but is struggling to maintain some of it's original beauty. The old beauty needs a major face lift. On arrival the staff are very professional, courteous and helpful. We were offered a complimentary upgrade to the new wing but... more

Our family enjoyed staying in the newer section (Prince of Wales Building). Our room was modern, spacious and clean. Our dinner in the Veranda restaurant and the brunch buffet were delicious - but expensive for a family of four. Our twelve year old son was very interested in the "ghost tour" of the hotel. On the guided tour we also... more

We had intended to stay at the Fairmont Algonquin for several days but ended up doing one night only. The lobby and other public areas are very nice and attractive, and its history adds to the charm. We requested a waterview room and ended up on the 4th floor, which did indeed give us a view of the bay in... more

My wife and I along with my 2 1/2 year old niece spent the night at the Fairmont Algonquin on Saturday August 29. We had a Fairmont room booked with a cot request for my niece but upon check in we were upgraded to a 2 queen bedbed suite in the newer Prince of Wales building. The room was quite... more
