Relatives stayed at the Hume Hotel in the Spring and said they had a great time so we decided to check it out in July. We had never been to Nelson before and had a great time in Nelson and at the Hume Hotel. When we checked in the receptionist moved us to a different room further away from the... more

Historic, charming and beautiful. I have found a quaint town nestled in rolling mountains, with a well preserved touch of the past and a new age youth that blend so well it's inspiring. We stayed at the Hume Hotel downtown Nelson and WOW were we ever impressed. The restaurant had the best cabbage rolls i've ever had - really great... more

We stayed for one night on the 4th floor, big room with huge closet and good size bathroom. We were on a motorcyle and they have ample parking for bikes. We were checked in by Andromeda, she was awesome, friendly and very helpful. We ate at the pub and it was great. There was a jazz band in the library... more

Stayed at the Hume for one night. The service was good, food excellent and location central. All of that was negated of course as I opened the the door to my room that night and entered the 10th level of hell. The room had no air conditioning and it was sweltering hot in there. The one fan included did nothing to improve... more

This hotel is the heart and spirit of Nelson. An old hotel with character. The floors are uneven from decades of settling. We traveled with our 12 month old and had a great time. If you desire quiet nights, be sure to stay on the 4th(top) floor and facing the back of the bldg. The hotel has many bars and... more

We loved the Hume and can't wait to return to stay longer. We had one of the corner rooms and were amazed with how roomy it was and how nicely furnished. We had a wonderful time in the Library Lounge -- good food and wonderful music. The breakfast was spectacular the next morning -- real hash browns ... not those... more

Loud music until early in the morning from the hotel's multiple bars made sleep impossible. When I went downstairs at 1:30 am to complain, the front desk clerk literally shrugged and gave me some earplugs. The next morning I spoke to the manager, Lorelei. Her demeanour and competence were appalling for a hotel manager. She essentially accused me of fabricating... more

While the staff is friendly and provides the best service possible, I do not recommend staying in the Hume Hotel. It's impossible to get a good nights' sleep with the pub and night club below the hotel as the rooms have no sound-proofing. It's very loud in the hotel at night, and changing rooms didn't help. Staying on the fourth... more

Really enjoyed this hotel and Nelson in general. All staff seemed very courteous and helpful. The hotel is a bit quirky with hearing all the creaks and sounds of other guests, but it is an excellent option. Plenty of old pictures throughout which were very interesting. We enjoyed the location which was a quick walk to almost anywhere you'd want... more
