I stayed at the Fat Salmon Backpackers several times when work in Port Alberni and inclement weather precluded me from returning home. The hosts went above and beyond the call of duty to make me feel welcome.
In the summer they host barbecues for friends and lodgers alike on their front deck. There's no better place than the Fat Salmon deck to enjoy a lazy summer evening, when the heat of the day slowly cools off, and the sun sets over the Alberni Inlet, visible from the common area in the back of the building.
The Fat Salmon is within walking distance of a grocery store, several pubs, shopping and the MV Lady Rose Marine Services, which travels to Bamfield and Ucluelet down the Inlet. more
