Hotels are hotels, anywhere you go they all seem similar. That's what makes the Walper interesting. Yes the building is quite old, but not old enough to be an antique feel, it still has a historic feel to it. They keep it in good condition, and have a few historical plaques around the hallways. It is also centrally located, with... More

The hotel is downtown Kitchener, and has not parking available unless you pay $20 for valet parking. You have to park down the street in public parking. It is an old hotel, which has some charms, but when you get past the front lobby and enter the hallways to the rooms and into the room, it did not have the... More

Dear tklimac, Thank you for sharing your feedback from your visit at the Walper Hotel. I am sorry to hear your stay did not live up to your expectations. Located at the oldest intersection in downtown Kitchener, we have very limited onsite parking. However, the public parking you mention is located in a new facility less than 100 metres from... More

This is an old hotel in downtown Kitchener that is undergoing renovations. My room had been renovated and was very nice. Spacious, nice bathroom and amenities, free wifi, etc. Guests should be patient since the work is still ongoing. However I do recommend it and will return. Staff were friendly and helpful.

My girlfriend and I attended a wedding at the Walper Hotel May 24th. Pros: Everything was set up beautifully and the staff and servers were very friendly. The enterance to the area the reception was held was very well furnished and looked amazing, especially at night time. We had a room that provided quiet from the street and a great... More

Get your old fashion key and enjoy a great room with fridge and Kuerig coffee machine! Nice duvets and linens. Towels were very soft and bathroom was stunning. Organic soaps and shampoos. I will definitely book there again. Just walk out the door to grab a cab! Parking down the street is an extra $14.50 overnight.

The Walper is one of those mildly run-down 19th century North American hotels that I usually appreciate much. It is surely a charming place, even if not in the best of all shapes. It makes a point of having been freshly redecorated in the 80ies, but then, this was not exactly yesterday. Obviously, a good feeling for style was not... More

Dear Karlkoreander, Thank you for sharing your experience at the Walper Hotel. Stayed at this historic hotel. Absolutely loved it from the facade to the lobby to the rooms. All classic. Max at the front desk is exceptional when it comes to securing your satisfaction. I have learned that I should ALWAYS check on Trip Advisor before booking a hotel! I went on someone's recommendation that this was an OK hotel close to the function I was attending. I think it would be best to list my complaints in point form: "Valet" parking consists of 3 parking spots close to the building, where you park... More

I posted a review on Expedia a couple of days ago... apparently that review has been hidden., so I shall post here as a follow up. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in 1893 and renovated in 2011, and following in the footsteps of notable visitors, The Walper invites its guests to rediscover the hotel where guests have enjoyed the rich architectural details of a time gone by, blended with the attentive, warm and welcoming service only experience can deliver. Credited as the original commercial establishment in the town of Berlin, and recognized as the first to have hydropower, guests will be treated to a unique balance of history and modern comfort as they stay, dine, or celebrate in the hotel enjoyed by William Lyon Mackenzie King, Wilfrid Laurier, Pierre Trudeau and nearly every other Canadian Prime Minister. Among others, Eleanor Roosevelt enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard and Louis Armstrong played his trumpet off the King Street balcony. Guests are encouraged to explore the building that housed liquor smuggled by Al Capone and that hid Lady Gaga, the queen of display, who remained unrecognized days into her stay. Visitors will dine in the Ballroom where Lennox Lewis once fought, and relax in suites enjoyed by everyone from Royalty, to leaders in the Arts, Cultural, Technological, and Political Realms who have chosen The Walper as their preferred accommodation in the area for over 120 years. ... more   less
