Two nights here in August. Spent roughly $30 a night for a room in an eight bed dorm. Pros: I slept well, no one stole my things, and it was easy to get to Banff by bus. I met a nice Quebecois family in the kitchen, which was the one ray of sunlight from the visit. I also did laundry.... More

Average is the word that describes the Hostel Bear. But you'll get what you pay for. The hostel was ok-priced, given its location close to Rocky Mountains national parks and transcanada highway. It was also possible to do a last moment booking before a sunny September weekend. The amenities are pretty much standard for this type of accommodation - dorm... More

I left my bread for a couple of hours and woman from reception ate it. I recognized my bread on her desk. She had a sandwich with it. I was surprised and sad. Not impressed. Other than that it's a good place but really hot. Needs air con.

I think the first thing anyone considering the Hostel Bear should realise is that this is not a hotel, but this part of the reason why we stayed there. After a road trip of motels & hotels, & restaurants, we wanted to have a couple of days where we could prepare our own food. The kitchen area in the Hostel... More

Negative- Maybe hostels just aren't for me, but I would way rather camp. I don't mind bugs in the tent (I mean you are outdoors..) but bugs in a hostel room grosses me out! And there were quite a few in ours. Upon check in, we were charged an extra 2$ fee for using credit (don't really see why this... More

Stayed here en route to a ski trip in the mountains, desk lady wasn't incredibly friendly and halfway through cooking our dinner the fire alarm went off and we had to leave the building. After an hour waiting outside the firemen told us that the cause of the false alarm was that people had ripped the smoke detectors out of... More

I was woken up around 2am by few people that jux got in..the opening and closing of the door is loud, someones already snoring. even if you get ear... More

Location is good (if you don't mind the noise from the highway and the train) as well as the common areas. Everything else is really average. Cleanliness, staff and so on. The front desk staff is very often not at the front desk which is annoying if you have questions. The rooms would be quite nice, but the beds are... More

Hot rooms. Staff was nice. Weird that bathroom didnt have a lock. 10 minute walk from downtown. Nice big kitchen to cook your meals at. Hostel seemed nicer looking at the name, than it actually was. But it was a good&cheap place to stay at when visiting Canmore and recommend others to do that.

This hostel has a great common area, but the rooms were tiny, the top bunks dangerous (splinters and danger of falling), the key cards weren't working, we couldn't use their PC, the reading lights weren't working... cleanliness was average. Noisy as it is located between highway 1a and the train line. Not coming back for 35$!
