Relatively clean, modern facilities right in Canmore. Close to amenities and shopping. Large sitting area upstairs. Decent kitchen although if the hostel is full you might feel a little cramped. Staff friendly and helpful. Check in and check out was a breeze. Warning: If you are a light sleeper, request to be in a room on the other side of... More

If you just need to kitchen only, then it's fine. But if you try to sleep, good luck to you. On the night I was there, several people from other room scream and yelling until 3:30am. They even ran and played at the hallway. And the girl worked at the front desk was useless. She didn't bother tell those people... More

Keep in mind when booking that this is a Hostel not a hotel. You will have to make your own bed and have a single bed. The rooms are a good size for a hostel and each room has a washroom with a tub, shower combination. The room we stayed in was a bit worn and needed a little sprucing... More

Stayed at this hostel for a week. The front desk girl (Machela) was the rudest person I've ever come across working in a customer service position. Talks down to guests, is never at the front desk when you need her and would rather be outside smoking then helping the guests. They have vending machines that have one pack of Nerds... More

Two nights here in August. Spent roughly $30 a night for a room in an eight bed dorm. Pros: I slept well, no one stole my things, and it was easy to get to Banff by bus. I met a nice Quebecois family in the kitchen, which was the one ray of sunlight from the visit. I also did laundry.... More

Average is the word that describes the Hostel Bear. But you'll get what you pay for. The hostel was ok-priced, given its location close to Rocky Mountains national parks and transcanada highway. It was also possible to do a last moment booking before a sunny September weekend. The amenities are pretty much standard for this type of accommodation - dorm... More

I left my bread for a couple of hours and woman from reception ate it. I recognized my bread on her desk. She had a sandwich with it. I was surprised and sad. Not impressed. Other than that it's a good place but really hot. Needs air con.

I think the first thing anyone considering the Hostel Bear should realise is that this is not a hotel, but this part of the reason why we stayed there. After a road trip of motels & hotels, & restaurants, we wanted to have a couple of days where we could prepare our own food. The kitchen area in the Hostel... More

Negative- Maybe hostels just aren't for me, but I would way rather camp. I don't mind bugs in the tent (I mean you are outdoors..) but bugs in a hostel room grosses me out! And there were quite a few in ours. Upon check in, we were charged an extra 2$ fee for using credit (don't really see why this... More

Stayed here en route to a ski trip in the mountains, desk lady wasn't incredibly friendly and halfway through cooking our dinner the fire alarm went off and we had to leave the building. After an hour waiting outside the firemen told us that the cause of the false alarm was that people had ripped the smoke detectors out of... More
