We had a great experiance while staying at the hostel. I bought a group of 14-17 year olds from our leardeship group dogsledding. Naturally they were aprehensive for their first stay in a hostelas the only referance point they had was a bad slasher film. We had a great time in the games room, the kitchen facilities were top notch... more

I stayed at this hotel with a group of friends for 4 nights preceding and following New Year's Day, 2007. On the positive side, the hotel was clean and well taken care of. The service was decent, and the staff were fairly friendly. Its location geographically is superb, being in Canmore, not too far from skiing and spectacular mountain scenery.... more

My first impressions of the hostel were quite good...nice looking, fairly clean (although we did find an old dusty sock under our bed), and good facilities. They say they clean the bathrooms every day, I question this because they never seemed to restock the TP... After a few weekdays, the weekend came, and with it came the problems... Their reservation... more

The website for the Hostel Bear in Canmore showed a lovely, new building with excellent facilities. Those photos must have been taken immediately upon the building's completion, for the reality was nothing like the photos. The Hostel Bear is housed in a wonderful facility, and there is a ton of potential there. It COULD be really, really nice. The problem... more

We booked this hotel for our wedding weekend. After booking online 3 months before, we were a bit disappointed in our room. I had requested a quiet room because there were train tracks nearby. We didn't imagine that close. When we arrived, we found out we couldn't have a room away from the tracks because we booked online - the... more

We stayed one night in the Bear Country Lodge in April. Originally we planned to stay at The Drake, but we found the room rate at the Lodge a little cheaper. After reading the awful reviews - I was a bit nervous, however we ended up having a very pleasant stay. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The check-in... more

Booked to stay in August 2006. 'Family Bear Suite' sounded friendly and cosy - anything but... The hotel was advertised as having air conditioning. When we went up to our room, it was stifling. The air-con unit would not have cooled a picnic box. We thought about ventilating the room by opening the window. Only one small window would half... more

What a great lodge. Located on "hotel strip" in Canmore, just off the main highway- close to downtown (about one minute drive). New, clean rooms, with unexpected amenities- such as higher-end duvet, pillows and sheets, king sized bed, mini-fridge in room, and good quality soaps and accessories in bathroom. Great internet rates available at www.bearcountrylodge.com , especially on week days.... more

We stayed at the Bear Country Lodge for 4 nights in September 2005. Our room was on the 2nd floor and we had a nice view of the mountains. The only fault of this hotel is, as other reviewers have commented, the train track is very close to the hotel and it is noisy! I came prepared though with ear... more

We stayed 2 nights there on June 26 and 27. Friendly staffs and the complimentary breakfast every morning was great. We are happy with our stay there since we booked through Expedia for US$68.30 per night including taxes and fees. From one of the previous reviews, we asked for a room at the front of the hotel on second floor.... more
