Booked a Bear Den for my parents and our family. Cons: The room was below ground so the back end felt dark and dingy. Carpets were a mess - lots of big stains. It looked like it was in the middle of a reno - no closet doors or dressers so you'd have to live out of your suitcase in... more

I stayed with my wife and parents in a Bear Den 2 bedroom unit for 5 nights in June. We had stayed before in the ski season and find Canmore to be a charming town an easy drive to the ski areas. The unit was again very clean and we found everything we needed at a good price. There's a... more

I stay here at least once a year and enjoy the experience. The 3 bedroom units are on two floors with either 1.5 or 2.5 bathrooms depending on if you choose railside or roadside. Both locations have their advantages - railside/better view; roadside - extra bathroom/bit quieter. The location is very good to acquire groceries and go shopping in town,... more

After reading about the noisy trains I booked a three bedroom on the front side of the building to avoid the noise. This cost me extra money since I only needed a two bedroom, but none were available on the front side. When I arrived with my group I was shown to a railroad retreat suite on the train side... more

This place certainly has a great deal to offer to many people. I have stayed there twice - once with my family (4 of us in total) and once with my friends (6 of us in total). It has the features of a condo/apartment for budget-minded travellers. You can save money on food by purchasing groceries and eating in rather... more

As a pet friendly chalet, we took our dog with us when we stayed at the Canadian Rockies Chalets. We had to pay $15/day for our pet to stay there. Two days after leaving, the Chalet called to inform me I had been charged an extra $50 for the cleanup of our pet outside the chalet. We cleaned up after... more

Recently renovated and with the addition of an outdoor hot tub, the Chalets are great for families. We've stayed on the "back" side and on the "front" side and believe me, the front side is much quieter. All the hotels along the Bow Valley Trail in Canmore face the same difficulty: constant trains rumbling through. Therefore, whatever is farthest from... more

Stayed for one night in September 2004. Wanted a place with mountain view for our last night before flying out of Calgary. Found the "Railway Retreat" 3 bedroom unit for $130 CDN on expedia.ca. When I read that you could watch the long freight trains as a bonus I just had to book it. Condo was clean and very spacious. more

Our group of 8 recently stayed at the Canadian Rockies Chalets and while the condo was spacious and clean, we were not able to catch a wink of sleep due to trains passing directly behind the hotel every hour throughout the night. The staff were friendly, courteous and sympathetic, however, understandably powerless to do anything about the noise. Unfortunately, we... more

A huge surprise - a truly spacious suite and basically at the same price as a decent hotel. We had 3 bdrms, master with ensuite, another 4-pc and a half bath in the main area. A complete kitchen, 2 view decks, lots of windows that open and enough room for all of us to gather in the living room. Kitchen... more
