Away for a walking trip, chose Tirril to be near Lowther Park, what a super pub, log fires, very friendly staff nothing to much trouble, lovely dinning room, excellent food, great local ales, cosy rooms will return.

Log fires, home cooking, super breakfast . Ideal stopover, for travellers . Large spacious car park too . Curry nite is excellent value . Good selection of ales. If you can't be bothered with the hassle of town, this place fits the bill .

Having read previous favourable reviews, we booked a 3 day mini break and had a really lovely time at this friendly B&B. Being keen walkers in the lakes, this cosy pub and B&B ticked all the boxes for us.. Great Value, Great Food, Great Local Ales, Friendly and Attentive service, Clean, Cosy Rooms, Great Location (near to Ullswater & Haweswater)... More

We ended up at the Queens Head because my daughter and partner had booked it as a suprise for us. We entered blindly, only getting sat nav directions. We walked in to be welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to our room. The room was immaculate, and as a present from our daughter there was a bottle of wine... More

We have just returned from a two night stay at this lovely place. We had a family room, which was clean and cosy with very very comfy beds. We received a very warm welcome and were looked after throughout our stay. Our little girl was under the weather, and she was told at dinner time that she could have anything... More

First came here for food in Oct 13 and loved it ! Real pies made by their sister company were tasty and filling, this is a proper Cumbrian pub with thick walls, real fires, good local ales and plenty of character. We loved it so much we came back to stay in December 13 and found the rooms were just... More

stayed on a business trip recently, including overnight stopover. Food was excellent in front of open fire, couple of pints of local cask and great company. Bedrooms were functional and could do with a sparkle but were clean and well presented. ( bathrooms hit the spot). One to check out if in Cumbria

We called in to the Queen's Head on Friday 1st November, at around 2pm, at the start of our 3-night stay in a local cottage. The pub is very traditional and has original features throughout, with low ceilings, flag floors, chunky furniture, stone built bar, fireplaces, etc. We had sandwiches on that day, which were very nice indeed. Yesterday, 3rd... More

Stayed here as a family en route to Scotland. We arrived after a nightmare journey at nearly 11pm. Greeted by extremely friendly staff who were very sympathetic about the long journey and very reassuring on the phone as we rang to tell them how late we were going to be. The 2 rooms we booked (one for parents, one for... More
