Gal Oya Lodge is very special indeed. It is in a jungle location in one of the most unspoilt parts of Sri Lanka, far from other tourists and next to a village of one of the last indigenous tribes of the country. We have travelled extensively and have never stayed anywhere so lovely that combines unspoilt beauty with comfort and... More

What a surreal experience! After our drive (3.5 hours) from Kandy we were not quite sure where we were arriving to in this remote corner of Sri Lanka. (neither did out driver) When we got out of the car one of the owners was there to greet us, there were fresh cool towels and a delicious local drink. We were... More

We stayed 3 nights at this remote lodge on the way to the east coast, and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all, on the whole it was exactly what i was looking for and more. After a rather long and bumpy road trip we arrived at this amazing lodge tucked away on the edge of Gal Oya N.P... More

This is a new hotel which has only been open since December and is still not fully finished. The setting is in the jungle of the national park, and consists of individual cabins with thatched roofs. Whilst spacious they are a bit spartan and no hot water in the sinks for shaving takes one back to your Boy scout days.,although the... More

We stayed for two nights at this very comfortable and hospitable resort. Gal Oya is an eco-lodge built entirely with local materials with the goal of a minimum impact on the environment. Birds are everywhere and it is easy to add to your life list. A walking tour was taken shortly after arrival and gave us an opportunity to view... More

I stayed here with my husband for four nights and it was the most disappointing part of our holiday. I know we all have different tastes, expectations and experiences but the other reviews shock me! Gal Oya Lodge it is not situated in the middle of a national park: in fact the national park is a forty-minute drive away. The... More

Dear Tizzyelle, Thank you for your feedback and your husband’s too (‘Bukatee’ below). We always value feedback from our guests in order to improve and we’re very sorry that you both felt that the Lodge had shortcomings. Whilst our Lodge, with its focus on wildlife and sustainability, is not for everyone (we deliberately kept features such as A/C and electrical... More

Thank you so much Tim, Millie and all the wonderful staff What an amazing place. Hidden away, unspoilt and stunning. It is unique and it may not be to everyones taste but it is surely the very best way to experience a genuine slice of Sri Lanka in the most architecturally beautiful lodge. Elephant spotting, swimming in the mighty river,... More

Gal Oya is one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at, anywhere in the world. The architecture is wonderful – with a breathtaking pool overlooking the mountains. The fact there’s even a swimming pool in the middle of a national park is pretty extraordinary, and it was the perfect refresher on a hot April day! The views... More

I don't normally write reviews as you can see from my contributions. But I felt an unbiased opinion was lacking in the reviews I had read here, and felt I really should let others read a true account of what we experienced. Gal Oya (Rocky River) Lodge (GOL) located in an 'Informal Jungle Setting' (much like a dense English forest)... More

I had the pleasure of visiting Gal Oya Lodge on my holiday in Sri Lanka. The lodge itself is a little piece of paradise with a beautifully constructed restaurant and bar, which is the perfect place to sit and let the hours fly by while watching the wildlife that surrounds you. The cabanas are very private; each one surrounded by... More
