Stayed at the bay horse for a couple of nights for our trip to York races.Stella and her staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good and you wanted for nothing. We ate in the pub for the two nights and found a good choice of meals and these were cooked and served with perfection ( especially... More

Stayed there for a couple of nights over valentines weekend. Eat in restaurant both nights food a bit pricey but all freshly cooked and delicious. Lovely cooked breakfast. All staff very helpful and friendly. Our room was in I think a converted barn but was ok. So would stay there again although its worth making note there is nothing else... More

We stayed for a couple of nights making it our base for a trip to Wetherby races. Stella and her staff were very pleasant, and helpful. The breakfast was very good, we dined each evening in the restaurant, there was a good varied choice on the menu (pigs cheeks being one of the meals on offer, they don't come more... More

We stayed at the Bay Horse Inn for one night, using it as a base for spending a couple of days in York. The pub is about nine miles outside of the city centre, but it is only a mile from a railway station with regular services into the city that take about ten minutes. Stella and Mike very kindly... We've just had three days here for visiting local attractions. Typical country pub with a log fire. The guest room No. 8 at first appeared to be shabby chic style but gradually showed itself to be more shabby and in need of a good scrub. On looking for a dropped earring, we found a zipped wallet with kids sunglasses under... More

Thank you for taking the trouble to pass on your comments. I always welcome feedback from our guests so that we can improve. Some of the cleaning issues you mention are areas we undertake periodically- moving wardrobes, for example, and we use our quiet period after Christmas to tackle painting etc. Your room should have been serviced daily, to include... Breakfast good. Evening meals good. Stella and her staff are very friendly, especially the Bavarian chap Hugo who doesn't need much encouragement to sit in your lap. The room we had could best be described as being like your favourite cardigan- it's cosy and you like it but there's a button missing and it's frayed round the edges. Greene King... More

Thank you for your lovely comments- made me smile! Hugo clearly liked you a lot- he doesn't sit on everyone's knee your know. I do like your cardigan analogy- we will be doing our best during our quiet season to sew on a few buttons. Kind regards, Stella More

Saturday evening meal after hectic Christmas shopping in York. Traditional country pub about 20 minutes drive from York Centre. Friendly welcoming staff. Good food and reasonably priced ....check out the specials board. Quaint setting. Hugo the pub dog was an added bonus. Would recommend a visit

Our search was limited to dog friendly and this pub seemed to stand out. We were not disappointed. The room was nice clean and well presented, the pub was lovely and friendly, the food was fantastic good quality not over priced or fussy. Resident pub dog is gorgeous. Absolutely no negatives we could point out.

Lovely stay, genuine traditional pub - food and beer excellent. We and our dog made very welcome. Rooms are separate from the pub itself which means you have your own front door and able to come and go as you please. We had a twin and double rooms - both clean and comfortable and ample supplies of tea, coffee and... More
