On my arrival into Baucau, I was booked in to stay at the Pousada de Baucau (first night in Timor Leste). Unfortunately due to some miscommunication, my booking was cancelled (no fault of the hotel). Pousada de Baucau is the best hotel I've seen in Timor Leste. It is a very memorable place in time that i celebrated my 35th birthday during my one year stay in Timor Leste. Pousada brings back the old memory of the Portuguese ruling in Timor Leste.

What the Pousada lacks in amenities, it makes up for in colonial charm. It's a huge step up from the other accommodation options in Baucau (and priced accordingly), but still good value compared to the weekend prices at the pousada in Maubisse. Pousada de Baucau is a wonderful example of the indulgences that the Portuguese enjoyed when they controlled East Timor. At the present time the property is almost completely restored, the yet-to-be restored sections are not open to guests presently, but the feeling of extravagance is wonderful.
