We stayed at the Hambleton Hall for a brief weekend away from London. Very easy to get to actually, straight up the A1M. As others have noted, the spot is really quite lovely and the village itself cute as a button with rambling stone houses, waving trees and lovely little pub - we dined at the pub for our second... Beutiful location and building and therefore has the potential to be a lovely place to enjoy a meal, if it were not for the attitude of the waiting staff. Apart from a gentleman who appeared to be more manageria, the attitude of the other waiting on staff cast a cloud over our evening. Our party felt as though we were... More

I stayed at the Hall last night and for dinner had fresh sea trout followed by lemon meringue with lime leaf ice cream. The somelier suggested a New Zealand Reisling. I couldn't stop smiling ! It was pure joy on a plate ! I am fortunate enough to eat at Michelin star restaurants regularly and this one tops the lot... More

We spent three nights at the Hall after an overnight stay at the Hart's companion hotel in Nottingham (which incidentally earned us a complimentary glass of champagne from Mr. Hart). We utterly enjoyed everything about Hambleton- the staff, the rooms, the location, and especially the food. The staff was uniformly welcoming, friendly, and seemed to be enjoying their jobs. Typical... More

Just stayed at HH for 2 nights (we were told it was 2 night minimum stay at weekends but not convinced the same rule applies to all!). It really is a beautiful location and is very relaxing. Just not sure it is worth the money though. To justify a price of £310 per night (B&B) I really think you need... More

We recently spent two quiet but cosseted days in this first class hotel. It stands a bit secluded but high, overlooking Rutland water. Menus were quite special with some patrons taking iPhone photos of the dishes before tasting their delights. Service was exemplary making the experience one to recommend. We visited the local town of Stamford which was new to... More

We stayed here 15 years ago and decided it was time to go back. The hotel is in a glorious location, with wonderful views over Rutland Water. It is a quiet hotel in a quiet spot. Its easy to park. Unlike similar hotels it has not gone down the spa/extra child friendly route. There is a pool in the grounds... More

Rutland county where this top hotel is located is not famous like the cotswolds or other famous beauty spots in the UK but in fact the area is very pretty and the hotel s position overlooking the Rutland lakeand surrounding fields is idyllic. This was our second visit and was just as enjoyable as our first last year ,staying in... More

We went for a meal to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. The atmosphere and the surroundings of this hotel were superb. It was a typical English country residence, beautifully furnished with attention to detail. The food was exquisite - such delicious flavours - and a varied menu. A gormet's delight! Everything was perfect.

What can I say? Fantastic location but it stops there. The Hotel has no charm, is not welcoming, has no character. A reviewer used the word "frosty", good choice of word. We stayed for 2 nights mid week, tiny, noisy, overheated room. Plenty of staff but none with any personality or the ability to smile genuinely. We were served chocolates... More
