...you'll love this place. In more than a month of travelling around Costa Rica to photograph wildlife, the Laguna del Lagarto, together with the Osa pensinsula, was the absolute highlight. Granted, the rooms are nothing special (but perfectly adequate), but then you probably won't be spending any time in them anyway. Instead, you'll be up at sunrise to watch the... More

This is a simple, rustic place with small and dark but basically comfortable rooms, although it always bothered me the tile floors were never clean. And the water pressure in shower was nearly non-existent. But anyway, those aren't important. What is important is the staff is great including the ever-smiling manager Adolpho, the food is good (I remember particularly one... More

If it's birds you are after then this is the place. Great effort is put into putting up natural looking feeders to bring in the birds from the surrounding forest. No one can fail to be impressed by such close views of colourful Toucans, Aricaris, Great Currassows, Tanagers, Coatimundis and more. The rooms although basic are comfortable and have plenty... This place is heaven for birdwatchers. Just come. Bring your camera, lots of bug spray, and stay at least 3 nights. You will be rewarded with an experience of a lifetime. We enjoyed the rustic simplicity of the rooms, they felt like pioneer research facilities you see in nature documentaries. If your next door neighbor turned on the shower the... More

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. The Lodge is rooted firmly in the 70s decor wise but clean and nicely laid out. Decent amount of free activities are included as well as some paid ones that are very good (boat tour is a must). The staff were excellent. welcoming and helpful. And if you like birds they... More

After a drive on a pretty rough road you end up in a paradise for nature lovers. Part of the property is a large virgin rainforest, many kinds of birds come for breakfast and the sundowner, Henry presents the caimans from the near-by lagoons and his modelo frog, and you can participate in a very nice boat ride on the... I recently brought a group of 10 birders from the US to this fantastic lodge. This was our third lodge on our tour that included 4 different lodges in different habitats. I used this as a place for everyone to rest and recharge if that is what they wanted to do. Those who preferred a quieter time had no shortage... More

This is the place for birdwatchers! A lot of birds everywhere, great conditions for photography. Also the service is amazing, they are lovely and gives you full attention. There is no tv but you have a deck with a hammock and rocking chairs so you can take a nap or read a book as a pro in one of the... More

We stayed 2 nights at Laguna del Lagarto and I was thrilled with the quantity of birds and most of all how easy it was so see them in perfect conditions while they fed on the bananas put up for them at breakfast, on in the trees around the grounds. Ok, I'm an avid birdwatcher, but even "normal" people are... More

Excellent bird viewing. Rooms are basic. Beds are good, no fridge no airco, the fan works very well. The food. The first night , it was mediocre. the second night delicious tilapia. A boat trip is also recomandable. We visited a "bar" at the border with Nicaragua. Most important thing: the birds. Tucan, montezuma, parrots, kolibri ans a lot of... More
