This is a beautiful place! Friendly, helpful and efficient staff, lovely little lodges and perfectly acceptable home-cooked food all in an idyllic situation near the San Carlos river. The grounds are teeming with wildlife and we enjoyed a river cruise, which included a visit to a local family, and two lovely walks, one at night and another up through the... More

I visited Maquenque with my family two guys and my wife this summer. Maquenque is a very silence and peacefully place to take a breath far of city. The only sounds come from a lot of birds who visit this place every day. Service and attention was very special and the landscape simply wonderful for photographers and people who look... More

The situation is beautiful with rooms having lake view . The bird life is extensive and the guide very knowledgeable , keen and observant. The rooms were basic but comfortable. All staff and management very hands on , keen ,pleasant and helpful, nothing being too much trouble , The food is palatable but basic and tends to be repetitive ,... More

We have visited Costa Rica many times and know quite a few places. This time, we chose to stay at the Maquenque Eco-Lodge for four nights and had the best time ever. Vicky and her brothers are wonderful people. They know a lot about nature and manage their lodge sustainably and ecologically. They have an eye for detail and you... More

This was our first stop in Costa Rica and it was beyond our expectations. Every place we visited after that failed in comparison. The lodge is great, surroundings pristine, wonderful vegetarian food made to order. The staff is so professional yet warm and welcoming. The bird watching, kayaking, horseback riding tours were excellent. We saw more birds and animals here... More

Getting to the lodge wasn't easy, but the trip was well worth it! The location is beautiful and from our rooms, we could see the lagoon and many birds at every time of the day. Nowhere else in Costa Rica did we see as many birds! Scarlet and green macaws were frequently crossing the sky and were sometimes even perched... More

Maquenque lodge was our second stop on our Costa Rica tour, and was by far the most stunning part of the journey. The hotel - reached after a long, very bumpy ride - is built as a part of the surrounding environment, while at the same time offers all the possible comforts. Magnificent views on the river, thick jungle 3... More

This place was our first stop on our two week Costa Rican vacation and it was by far our favourite. The staff are very friendly and super informative about the nature that surrounded us. The cabins were absolutely lovely, great decor, simple and clean. The food was great too. This place is great for people who love nature and want... More

It is hard to get to and you stay at the Lodge once you get there and have all your meals there. The way they seat you for dinner makes meeting other people regretably impossible. Very basic food and not much of it.

The Maquenque team picked us up in San José and took us all the way up in a minibus, then across the river by boat. We were the only two guests for 2 nights in this beautiful, natural eco-lodge. The cook, the owner, the guide really went all the way to fulfill any request we had. We loved the food,... More
