We have spend a great time in Maquenque! THE Staff was very kind, knew a lot about THE nature and we have seen more than 80 different birds, a lot of frogs, crocodiles and much more. THE accommodation and restaurant are very good. We will come back! Thanks Vicky, Julio, José and Staff!!!

Probably our favourite place in Costa Rica - really nice accommodation, friendly and helpful staff, great food and beautiful surroundings. The tours were all really enjoyable and our guides, Jose Luis, and his apprentice Serge, were very knowledgeable and interesting. The kayaking tour was probably the highlight of our entire trip, especially for reptile and bird spotting. We saw loads... More

Despite the gruelling 1¼ hour drive on an appalling unmade-up, pothole-ridden and rutted road, this was our absolute favourite place! Julio and his sister Vicki were wonderfully welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The location is absolutely gorgeous, and we loved being able to sit out on our verandah looking out over the lagoon with iguanas, amazing birds and... More

The trip to Maquenque was an adventure in itself, but it's hard to describe this little haven in the midst of nowhere. We drove to a river, then hopped on a boat to Maquenque. We mentioned toucans, only to have 3 species of these descend on the feeder. Hundreds of birds, and the jungle is right outside your window. Note... More

Having just finished up a 16 day stay in Costa Rica I can now say that this was by far my favourite place to stay. We were totally spoilt for the rest of our trip by the adundance of wild life here from the howler monkeys, coatis, frogs, snakes not to mention of course some incredible bird life ranging from... This family run lodge was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and helpful. The lodge is beautiful and the surroundings are amazing. Loads wildlife, rain forrest and the river to explore with friendly and knowledgeable guides. Great hospitality, wonderful food. I can not recommend it enough. It is worth the journey!

We stayed for 3 nights in January 2015. This was our second trip to Costa Rica and this lodge was recommended by our agents in the UK. We have travelled on dirt roads in many countries and some are well-maintained - the 20 mile approach from Pital is not, with the whole surface full of pot-holes. The staff at the... More

We have a very small number of favourite lodges in Costa Rica and this is definitely one of them. It may be a long drive, the last part being on a bumpy dirt road, but this all part of the experience and getting out into the countryside. This is a great place for bird watching, even if not real bird... More

OK,so the drive is a bit tedious -33km of dirt track - but it seems that is the norm for Costa Rica. As soon as we arrived we were aware of bright coloured birds everywhere. The restaurant/bar/common area is very close to the constantly replenished feeding stations and the bird viewing is outstanding. We had toucans less than 10ft away... More

This place is remote with parking area and staging for short trip across a river to the gracious Lodge I had a nice large room/house with lovely views and lots of birds at nearby feeders. Not only good for birds, but we saw a crocodile and a nearby caiman, as well as a coati mundi and many interesting insects. The... More
