Stopped here on the way back from Edinburgh, well located for the motorway and a potter into the lakes (would also be handy for the dales. Inside has been renovated sympathetically, original features but lighter and more spacious than similar buildings. Well priced, rooms clean and comfy, nice toiletries. Dinner was busy - it was Friday - but excellent, proper... More

Needing a stop for the night on a long journey south from Scotland we looked up this pub - the price and location were right so we'd check it out on our way. Culgaith is a quiet village in the Eden Valley - easy access off the main roads south. On arrival the owner was welcoming, the room charming and... More

We ate here last weekend having already booked a table. We ordered drinks at the bar and were shown to a table in the bar area to look over the menu. Our order was taken from us and we were then shown to our table. The restaurant area was well decorated and very clean. Our food arrived promptly and all... More

A very nice place to stay for a couple of nights.Rooms were clean with a view over the pennines. We enjoyed drinks in the beer garden which was a sun trap. The Staff are very friendly and there is a welcoming ambiance. The restaurant was busy but unrushed we had scallops and the home made black pudding then black swan chicken... More

Chancing upon The Black Swan around 12.30 pm on a Sunday, while exploring the area during a week's holiday in the region, my Brother, his wife and I decided to have a look inside with a view to having lunch. Although the restaurant was not full, there were apparently several reservations during the lunch period, but despite this, the manager/landlord... More

Stopped for a light lunch. Our small dog was invited to join us. A very classy and friendly establishment, with lovely food and a very nice pint. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area or looking for a trip out to Cumbria for the day.

My wife and I booked in here as we needed to break our journey from the Lake District to the NE. Wasn't expecting too much really but was delighted with it and very pleased that we chose to stay here rather than in Penrith. It is only a few minutes off the A66 in a quiet village location. The staff... More

My husband and I stayed here on a Saturday night in May, en route to visit family in the north of England. With a young family (including young baby) at home, our one night away was very precious and thankfully our stay didn't disappoint. The village of Culgaith is quiet and very pretty; the Inn is traditional, welcoming and the... More
