We stayed at the Fox & Hounds for 3 nights to visit the North Yorkshire Railway steam weekend. It was a good base for this as only 10 minutes to Whitby.Comfortable room with nice view over the countryside. The bar has a good variety of ales & wine. Had an evening meal every evening, good variety.

great hotel, lovely rooms, and good service. Steak pie to die for. Good ales and fair selection of wines friendly staff Views across the moors is great and the night sky is clear. A bit hard to find as signage in the area is a little scant, Satnav tends to stop befroe you get there.

After a day exploring the North Yorks Moors we were looking for a country pub near to our base at Castleton for dinner. The first at Danby turned us away as they were fuly booked. We moved on to Ainthorpe and followed the signs for The Fox and Hounds not knowing what to expect. Although the restaurant was very busy ,... More

This pub is a great base for walking and exploring the North York Moors National Park. The staff are very friendly and they provide an excellent pub menu. Rooms are comfortable, though the bathrooms are basic and due for refurbishment. Wonderful views and especially popular on weekends- so do book in advance. Resident chickens help provide fresh English breakfasts and... More

...was what we ten hot and weary walkers wanted coming down from Danby Rigg on a ten miles walk and this inn was a most welcome stop for those beers. What a lovely place with a lovely lady serving behind the bar - made our day!

Stayed for 1 night, meeting up with a friend, who lives in nearby Castleton, for an evening meal. It was very enjoyable with wine & real ale - all very tasty & well prepared. Service throughout was excellent, even though it was a busy evening. Really friendly atmosphere. Room was cosy with all the usual amenities. Breakfast an absolute delight,... More

Been here twice with friends now- normally have to book. Really enjoyed the poached egg starter and steak burger is v good too. Gorgeous in the summer when the sun is shining and you can sit outside. Well priced for the quality of food.

My husband and I came here last month, the food was ok but my starter was cold and then came back dry after going in the microwave. The waitress seemed annoyed that I'd brought it up.The mains were tasty but my husband found a hair in his vegetables, again we were embarrassed to point it out. I'm sure the waitress... More
