A filthy cold windy and wet lunchtime was suddenly a distant memory in this cosy, amiable moorland village inn with proper fire, friendly customer mix of locals and intrepid walkers, various dogs, good ale, huge selection of interesting wines by the glass and really good sandwiches. The salad accompaniment was excellent too being imaginative and generous. Young waitress very bright,... More

We had a lovely meal with friends on a cold and windy Friday evening. We sat in the warm, cosy, dog-friendly bar area next to the log fire. Lovely food, friendly service and a good choice of real ales. Looking forward to going back.

Had to get away for a couple of days, easy reach of moors and Whitby coastal area. Arrived while dark, woke to a fantastic snow covered view. Room more than adequate for us having a dog with us, we both had excellent nights sleep. Good breakfast, but this was put in the shade by the excellent food in the evening.... More

We have not stayed at the Inn but have eaten here from time to time. Disappointingly in my view the quality of the food and the cooking has gone down, while the prices have increased significantly. There is still an excellent choice of beers and wines

This was the second time we had had dinner here in the course of a few days. There is a separate dining room but on both occasions we chose to eat in the more homely bar area. Both bar area and the dining room are quite spacious. A nice log fire in the former which is dog friendly too. The... More

I loved my chicken wrapped in Parma ham - my better half wasn't as complimentary about lamb shank although she enjoyed her crime brûlée later. Traditional bar area with roaring fire and tastefully decorated restaurant.

Very quaint little English pub in the heart of the Moors. We stayed for 2 days in a very comfy room. Nice hot shower and good sized and comfortable bed. Tea and coffee as well. Very friendly staff. We had dinner here both nights, food might be a bit pricey but there is so much you can't possibly eat starters,... More
