We have known this great pub since about 1987 when I used to drive coach tours to a nearby hotel and the welcome then was wonderful as it is now. Jim has recently retired but the new hosts, Nick and Dee and Nick's parents, Margaret and Steve are doing a great job of keeping a village pub the heart of... More

Comfy beds, excellent breakfast and dinner was more 5 star than 'pub' grub' Landlord and staff were friendly and welcoming, We had a couple of drinks in the bar with the locals, we look forward to staying here again!!!!!... Myself and a friend stayed at this B&B with a 2 year old for one night, the staff could not have been any more friendly, we ate at the bar for our tea and every one of the 3 ladies who served us was very kind and spent a lot of time talking to our 2 year old and she... More

Jim, the owner, and his wife are very friendly and run a comfortable inn. We have stayed there a few times and the accommodation is very good, the bed is comfortable and the breakfast cooked by Jim himself is excellent. We always leave wanting to go back the next time which can only show how much we like the place.... More

We stayed 2 nights, the Landlord and wife were very friendly as were the locals in the bar. Food in the restaurant was cooked properly and there was plenty of it. The reason we chose this B&B was because of the Greek chef, unfortunately he's left to run his own place in Castle Douglas and the Thistle Inn hasn't had... More

Having originally booked accomodation up the road and being hugely disappointed we consider ourselves very fortunate that the Thistle Inn had availability. A little unprepocessing on arrival but the rooms have been done to an excellent standard and the quality of housekeeping could not be faulted. Breakfast was great and served when you want it. The landlord and his wife... More

this review is only for the meal as did not stay at the hotel. This owner and staff in the pub are very welcoming and come over chatting to you. The owner has had the pub many years (I think he said 50!) so knows everyone, it is clearly the heart of the community. The chef is Greek and his... More

My wife and i googled resturants near to a caravan park we were staying at and the Thistle Inn came up as closest. On arrival i enquired about a table but our problem was that we had a small dog with us and like most places, understandably they dont accept dogs in dinning rooms, but they did say we could sit in... Our visit was for a meal only, so I cannot evaluate the rooms. As for the meal: I didn't expect much beyond typical fare from a small village's pub, so our meals at The Thistle were a nice surprise. As noted previously, there is Greek food and influence on the menu. I believe that the steak and Guiness pie there... More

We ate at The Thistle but didn't stay there as we have a holiday home locally. It would be an absolute understatement to say that we received a warm welcome on arrival. they sat my 5 year old son down, put a place out for his toy wolf, put a napkin round wolfy's neck and took an order from the...
