This hotel was beautiful. The service was very good, and it was like a museum. We thought it was just so charming, and nice. The food was very good at the restaurant too. I would highly recommend this hotel with a few suggestions.

We stayed here with a group tour and arrived dark and left before sunrise. Everyone was so disappointed that we couldn't spent more time wandering the grounds and enjoying the décor. The hotel has done an excellent job acquiring furniture and art that accentuates the historic architecture. The Zorro show was a little cheesy, but fun. The drinks and dinning... More

My wife, small baby and I stayed one night at this hotel while we were on our Chepe trip. We had a terrible experience despite of the nice hotel. We were travelling with a tour and since we had the baby with us it took us a while to arrive to the booking desk. When we finally did, they offered... More

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip to the Copper Canyon. The building is amazing, very old and beautiful. The staff went above and beyond, we had left something at our hotel in Divisadero and they made arrangements for a guest to bring it on the train to El Fuerte. And happy hou with Zorro is... More

Gorgeous setting, kind and helpful staff, fabulous design and architecture. A converted hacienda around a pretty garden courtyard. The access is steep and dark but I assume that there is help available for those who need it. also we stayed for 1 short night only- and the hot water didn't work! otherwise- wonderful. Located right in the center of the... More

Searching things to do along the Chepe Copper Canyon train trip we ran across the reviews on this property. For those of us who watched the Movies and "The Adventures of Zorro" television series in the 1960's. We just had to stop here. We were met at the train station by a taxi for the 6 or 7 kM trip... We had dinner at Hotel Posada del Hidalgo. Unfortunately, they had run out of the craw fish specialty, but we ordered the other specialty -- black bass, I believe -- which was good. The setting was really nice, alongside their pool under a palapa -- and we loved the non-stop hummingbird activity by the bar. (They had 4 or 5... More

This is an excellent hotel situated in a renoved stately mansion. The rooms were quiet, cool, clean and funky in a Mexican kind of way. The owner had tiled around the roots of an aged strangled fig. The outdoor courtyards and inhouse art gallery were charming. Well-located close to the town area, at night there are drinks by the pool,... More

I really liked this hotel and sorry we were there for such a short period of time (~7 PM - 5 AM). The rooms were lovely, nicely laid out. The courtyards and fountains inside were gorgeous and the food at dinner was superb--I highly recommend going there just for dinner. The waiter was exceptionally good. And the box lunch they... More

This was a really interesting and quirky Mexican hotel. We arrived late (having missed our plane!) and so, sadly, missed the Zorro show which sounded like real fun. Zorro did welcome us and the kids felt they had missed out. The rooms and the hotel grounds and restaurant were beautiful - very clean and well looked after. The restaurant was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential "alcalde" (mayor) who spent five years and 100,000 gold pesos on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte. It was built just below the old fort, and has four layers of brick and adobe construction. The iron work was brought from Mazatlan. ... more   less
