My wife and I booked this castle for our son and his new bride after their wedding in Musselburgh and we have nothing but praise for the Brash family. This B&B is not about money it's about one family wanting people to share a wonderful piece of history that was almost lost. Right from the start they welcomed us as... More

My husband and I recently stayed in the Tower at Faside Estate. What an amazing experience all around! The castle itself is quite enchanting, with a long and rich history. Thank goodness it was saved and renovated for people of this age to enjoy! Staying in the Tower, we essentially had two floors and the roof (complete with turrets) for... More

An excellent experience from start to finish. From the initial email, which arrived just after booking, through to the farewells as we departed, the owners struck just the right note. We stayed just one night, but this would make a fantastic base for several days near Edinburgh. As the only guests -- there is just the one guest suite of... More

Ian and Sue made us feel so welcome we knew we would love our stay, especially after an exhausting overnight flight from Canada (hint: don't fly Air Transat unless you're in Club Class). We loved the Tower and our 4 nights there. Each morning we had a fabulous new breakfast courtesy of Ian, who does the shopping. The room is... More

Sue and Ian run the show her at Fa'Side Castle just outside of Edinburgh and they are lovely people. My wife and I only had the chance to stay one night, but when we arrived, we were shown around the grounds and given the extensive (and super fascinating) history behind the building. We stayed in the tower and it was... More

We stayed here for two nights in August 2013 rather than pay the high prices in Edinburgh - and we are glad we did! What a great experience, we stayed in "The Tower". Our hosts gave us a fabulous welcome and we recomend this B&B if you are looking for a different experience. Get fit climbing the spiral staircase, first... More

I don't spend £150 a night on a hotel, let alone a B&B. But this B&B for 2 folk gives you TWO FLOORS of a castle, plus the open roof! Amazing views of Edinburgh, the Forth Bridges, Fife, Bass Rock, N Berwick Law, and East Lothian. GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY! Bedroom floor means a huge bedroom/dining room, and a nice... More

My girlfriend has always wanted to stay in a castle and be a princess. The tower is awesome and soaked in history. Which the owners were only too happy to tell us about. The views are amazing. We very much appreciated the breakfast too. As there was no expense spared.

I highly recommend the place as the owners are very helpful and nice. Would be perfect for a long time stay as the kitchen is equipped with washing/dryer and all the things you need to feel yourself comfortable, even home. Owners even gave us fresh eggs in the morning and great advice where to go, visit or play golf. Will... More

We spent two nights at Fa Side during a recent 2 week trip around the UK. It was without a doubt the best accommodation of our entire trip - maybe the best of any trip. My husband chose it b/c he wanted to stay in a real castle. The restoration is amazing. There are before and after pictures to give... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
...At the top of the 14th century old tower lies our B & B accommodation, ideal for a romantic get-away and breaks to Edinburgh. The steep spiral staircase leads up past a glass walkway over the old dungeon and up to to a roof top walkway with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Why not enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the roof walk on a nice sunny morning? The barrel vaulted bedroom has an en suite bathroom with stand-alone slipper bath. The bed is an enormous 7 foot wide Emperor bed and their is a TV with DVD player in the Great Hall. A microwave, mini-fridge, kettle and toaster are provided within the bedroom suite.Guests staying in the Tower Vaults also have exclusive use of the finest room in the castle, the Great Hall. This magnificent old room has an original stone built fireplace with a log-burning stove, perfect for winter evenings. Beside the window there are stone window seats built into the thick castle walls. In the corner of the room are what remains of the now inaccessible old staircase.Up on the ceiling are some of the original corbels from when the castle was destroyed by fire after the Battle of Pinkie. Behind the tartan curtain is an original stone toilet called the "Laird's Lug" where the Lairds could listen to their prisoners down in the dungeon. In 2010 we commissioned an artist to paint the ceiling and a photo of this can be seen in the photo section.A continental breakfast is provided for guests to enjoy in the bedroom suite at their leisure and tea and coffee facilities are provided in the suite. From the battlements you can see the Forth Rail Bridge, Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh and the coast of Fife. The Tower sits within two and a half acres of garden including an orchard and sitting areas. ... more   less
