Just cycled 40 miles to the Ox, greeted by great bar staff very friendly. Stayed in the Lavender room, very spacious, very large bed, great bathroom. Only negative room very hot (with no heating) couldn't open windows. The staff at dinner were very knowledgable and once again friendly and accommodating . The food was very nice with a great choice.... More

khph Dear kph Many thanks for your comments. As you say, even without heating, with the weather we've had over the last few days it has been hot, and if you didn't/couldn't open the windows it would have been very sticky. I have just been and checked the windows in Lavender, as I was slightly worried there must be a... More

Excellent service, excellent restaurant, clean rooms, the staff are helpful and pleasant.Great views over the countryside If you are a light sleeper don't go when there is a wedding on or if you don't like discos, go during the week if you can.I think it would be helpful if the booking staff advise if there is a wedding on when you book this... Oliver P Many thanks for your feedback on your stay with us last weekend. We pride ourselves on our service and standards and while we achieved these in some areas, obviously we very much ‘dropped the ball’ in terms of taking your booking on a weekend when we had a wedding booked (absolutely not what we normally do). When we... More

We were given a warm welcome, which reminded us of why we love the Ox. Service excellent. Staff outstanding, especially the ladies that work at lunchtime. Stayed in the Studio, loads of space and a pleasant sitting area outside. Would recommend puddings for two!

Quite possibly the best Roast Beef dinner I've had when eating out. The beef was perfectly pink, the roast potatoes were just the right level of crisp and the trimmings were superb. All topped off with a sticky toffee pudding to die for. The service was exactly the right pace which not a lot of other local restaurants get right;... More

Found this fabulous place through the good pub guide app. We stayed for two nights in green cottage which was lovely with a seating area just off the bedroom. Our bedroom window looked onto the beer garden which was great when we first arrived because there was a very talented singer performing. We ate in the pub both nights because... More

I know that there are some brilliant reviews for this pub and it is supposed to be award winning, but I think that the award people should go back to re-rate the establishment. This is my own experience. I visited on Monday this week, so hungry that I could have licked the pattern off the wallpaper. After waiting for a... More

Dear Gavioli We embrace Trip Advisor and all customer feedback and reviews. In fact listening to our customers has been integral to our business over the past 15 years and one of the reasons I believe we have received a number of local and national awards. We may not always get it right, but we certainly want to. Firstly I... More

We found this a wonderful experience. We had a lovely welcome and were shown to our very unusual room. Every little comfort had been thought of. Only problem was bumping head on the beams! Loved the old school desk used as a table! Wonderful views from the rooms. We had a party in the barn in the evening where the... More

The Durham Ox matched the flavour of the reviews on all counts. We stayed in the Lavender room for 3 nights and it was a pleasure to be shown in by Sam after a long days driving and sight seeing. Ground coffee, a Yorkie bar and quality bathroom lotions all welcome when looking for a little luxury . We dined... More

Just popped into the Durham Ox these evening with my wife and two children. I am reviewing the establishment as a Pub and not a Hotel as we have not stayed overnight. We often go to it's sister pub the Crown and Cushion at Welburn but were passing Crayke so stopped by. Everything was spot on, if you get in... More

For some years, we lived close enough to the Durham Ox to be regular diners and never had cause for complaint. When circumstances forced a house move over 100 miles away, we were sorry to have to give up our visits, so when we learned in March this year that they had completed the conversion of some of the outbuildings...
