My wife and I visited in July of 2014. We've been traveling through Central America for 5 months and have been in many hostels along the way. We reserved our room online, prior to arriving at the property. We opted for the semi-private room which we thought meant private room with a shared bathroom. Picture, instead, a very large room... This was one of our favorite places we stayed while in Nica. Everything from the boat ride over to the rickshaw that hauled our gear, the staff, the food and the drinks. Food here was delicious, the drinks were cheap and plentiful. Our group of 5 had a private cabana which was nice and clean. We stayed a total of... More

Spending the last week of our trip at the lodge was a perfect way to end! Upon arriving we fell easily into the relaxed atmosphere and felt very welcome! The food was great and the staff was even better! Definitely recommend it to all travellers! :)

One of the highlights of our trip around Central America!! It is just soo cool and relaxing, not real life out here! The little boat over, the donkey that carries your bag, it is an experience every step of the way!! The staff here are simply the best! It was one of my friends birthdays and he organised a birthday... More

Wow, I never knew about a place like STL. So happy my friend really wanted to go here, after she read about it. Nice and quite beach to relax. Never been so relaxed and happy before, wandering around on a beach all by myself.. Then, after all relaxation, fun starts! Accompanied by a campfire, drinks, guitars, the most amazing sky... More

Was not feeling Leon at all and I'd heard rave reviews about this place, so I hopped on a bus, jumped in a boat, walked down the beach and was at Surfing Turtle in under an hour. It's a beautiful little resort hostel with three private cabanas and two separate large airy dorm rooms that are cleaned every day. The... More

My first experience of the lodge was something quite special, I got dropped off by Gerson, the pumping surfing turtle taxi driver, at the waterfront where a man was waiting with his boat, ready to take me across to the lodge. We set off across the water, and then I came across a horse and cart which took me the... More

If you´re looking for a good surfing location, this is not it. There is a permanent sign above the bar that says ¨swim at your own risk¨. Strong rip tide, steep beach, short break with powerful waves. Do not be fooled by the name of the hostel as I was! But if you´re looking for a hostel to drink at... More

Hi Branda, We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your visit. As you mentioned, although the ocean is a beautiful place we feel it is our responsibility to warn guests that it can sometimes be dangerous. Unfortunately, the tide changes from time to time and it is too bad you were not able to catch some waves.... More

We spend two nights in a private room and while the remote location is quite beautiful, the hostel has an unfinished and unprofessional feeling to it. Most of the volunteers who work there are more interested in partying than anything else. And while there was nothing really bad about our stay, there was nothing really great about it either. I'd... I had the greatest time at Surfing Turtle Lodge. Great staff, great rooms, delicious food and OMG the beach is outstanding. The big bonfires at night time, the great music, such good vibes. I recommend it to everyone, I will come back here again and again.
