we stayed here for two nights as a base for exploring the West McDonnell Ranges. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews, but now believe that some people have unrealistic expectations. It is better to think of Glen Helen as a lodge or homestead - a place where you can get everything you need for a... More

Dear atang2048 Thankyou for taking the time to review Glen Helen You had the advantage of staying more than one day, which immediately allows you more time to relax and soak up the atmosphere of our location, as well as time to explore this scenically rich and spectacular region We can recommend a longer stay to anyone who can allow... Dear Carol M Thanks for your review I am sorry you did not find your water supply in your room up to scratch. We have quite a lot of trouble keeping up with water in the busy season here, but generally there is enough. We try to stay cheerful and on top of our guests requirements, but perhaps the laugh... Van parking was a bit barren and dusty but some greenery for camping. Pleasant views to gorge and creek. Loved the historical photographs and other olde world bits and pieces in the hotel. Restaurant was well appointed and service very good. However the garlic bread pieces were absolutely miniscule (one inch square) and when we asked for more we were... More

Dear runner971 Thanks for taking the time to review Glen Helen. I am glad you enjoyed your meals, but I am a bit mystified because we do not serve garlic bread! and our bread that we serve with dips and with soup and as bread on request is fresh home made bread with slices about 8 x 4 inches! I... More

This little gem of a travellers oasis will surprise and delight those who appreciate warm hospitality in a unique and historic accommodation. We only visited for a few hours for coffee and tyre repairs but loved the main building with so much history when compared to modern resorts at Yulara and Kings Canyon. There's also a lovely little aviary with... More

We travelled to Glen Helen utilising motor homes and stayed 3 nights. Whilst some people expect luxury when 'resort' is mentioned, this place is far from a luxury resort. Motor home sites are basic, bathrooms also basic, but adequate. The overall 'resort' sits beautifully in the landscape of the West McDonnell Ranges which would be tragic if it were to... More

Dear Robyn S thankyou for your review of Glen Helen we are delighted you appreciate our little property's relaxed and laid back feel. We will not be a 'resort' for much longer as we work our way through all the changes that have to be made to return to the original name of GH homestead lodge I am sorry your... More

My husband and I spent one night at the Glen Helen "Resort". Yes it is the only accommodation around that region, however to call itself a resort, it is not. We paid $178 for a very basic room, very worn and extremely small with cracking paint around the windows. Our room faced the gorge but the windows were small lead... More

Dear Angelamonnie thanks for your review We are glad we were able to offer you one of our popular Range/River view rooms for your stay You are right that the heritage windows do not give picture window views of the Gorge/rocks etc but these windows are part of the fascinating history of Glen Helen, and were brought from the East... We made a loop from alice springs, uluru, kings canyon and then back to alice springs via Glen Helen. The West McDonnell ranges are amazing, with so many interesting and varied places to stop. Staying at Glen Helen gave us enough time to see some of these sights. Glen Helen has great outback character and is worth the trip in... More

People were friendly and staff gave great service. Breakfast was very good. Dinner was good although duck could have had a nice sauce added to improve it. We'll located to see the parts of McDonnell west ranges further from Alice and if you are coming from kings canyon , however rooms are basic. Taps in bathroom had a blue sediment... More

Dear Sydney People thanks for your review we are glad you enjoyed your stay, I will mention your comment re a sauce for the duck to the Chef, thanks Bathroom fittings are gradually being replaced. The blue deposit on the taps is a spectacular result of the chemical reaction of our mineralised water with the brass of the tap fittings!... More

$15 per person powered caming site. Friendly staff. Toilet facilities are ok for a campsite, mirrors, good hot water flow in the showeer. Diesel $2.20/L at 18/8/14. Good coin-operated Espresso machine $4. Excellent entertainment, we loved the musician at the pub (Chris Andersen?), he played beautiful music with different guitars and even spoons, and answered to dancing music requests.

Dear davidoptimal thanks for your succinct review. We are really glad you enjoyed your stay The musician is Chris Aronsten and he is quite exceptional as you say, and visits for 4-6 weeks a year as musician in residence. We have a great lineup of musos each year to enhance the enjoyment of our guests, including Alex Aronsten, Chris' brother,... More
