Stayed for 2 nights. Room excellent, food good and served in nice bar area (as our Irish Setter was with us - who was made very welcome). Staff very friendly. Excellent location for us to visit Northumberland for first time.

This was a very enjoyable stay in a rural pub/hotel in the Rothbury Hills/ Simonside Hills. The views from the garden are excellent and the staff were very attentive to the needs of our group. Breakfast service was a great mixture of good English Breakfast food and a touch of 'School Dinners' for those who might have experienced the specialist... More

Food was delicious, 9+ out of 10. Service great, Our room No. 5 was clean and the bed comfy. Only downside was the en-suite. Shower door needs changing, the shower switch needs looking at. The hand basin was loose, took 4 to 5 mins for hot water to come through, and 1 night and in the morning no hot water... More

My wife and I went here for a meal on a recommendation from the manager of our holiday rental. The restaurant has a brilliant view over the valley and the staff could not have been more helpful. The food was quite simply fantastic. The menu is fairly extensive and caters for all tastes. The staff were very helpful in explaining... More

Sad circumstances led to a group of us holding a 'wake' for a departed friend at the Three Wheat Heads last week. One friend arranged a full (14 piece) Pipe Band to play for a couple of hours in the inn's garden. Another arranged with the hotel to provide (very good) buffet food outdoors for an uncertain number of people.... More

Lovely, clean, well-decorated and furnished room in an old inn with stunning views over the hills. Breakfasts were great and evening meals quirky but tasty. Owner and staff all very friendly though, like other places we ate locally, they must struggle to find young wait staff who really know what they're doing. Deeply disappointed to find no shower in the... More

Room was very comfortable and of a good size with marvellous views over to Simonside. Breakfast set us up for the day, choice was good. Evening meals lovely and generous portions with plenty to choose from. Both breakfast and evening meals served promptly, no long waits. Staff very good, friendly and polite. Can get very busy on an evening but... More

We have driven past this Inn many times without stopping but this time we did stop, on the recommendation of a friend. We called in at lunchtime when the weather was very bad but there were still quite a few people in the restaurant even though it was midweek off season. The waitress was very friendly and gave us ample... More

Went on spec for Sunday lunch on bank holiday. Got a table despite turning up on what was clearly a very busy day. Staff were friendly and helpful, if a bit stressed. Nevertheless, our carvery was served fairly quickly and was very enjoyable. Prices reasonable. Some of the other food being served also looked delicious. I would definitely go back.

Stayed one night with some old friends. Very pleasant old inn. Staff very efficient and helpful. Room very good - great sleep. Food excellent. Highly recommended. Only criticism is the bar is not really a comfortable bar to sit and chat in after a meal - we went up the hill to an old pub instead.
