The Old Ship is ideally positioned overlooking Newbiggin-by-the-Sea's attractive bay and sandy beach. My room was spacious, comfortable and provided an outstanding view across the bay. All the staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed an excellent English breakfast before departing. I was also impressed by the folk music in the bar as well as the... More

I stayed in a triple room with my two daughters, with a view that overlooked the esplanade and famous sculpture. Walking along the beach in the evening was lovely, and the Inn is smack in the centre of town so within easy reach of restaurants and shops. As were were there during low season it was very quiet. The room... More

I stayed one night at The Old Ship while my brother was seriously ill in a nearby hospital. Jackie and Rachel made me feel at home, they were really welcoming and helpful. The room had a sea view, was spotless, and the bed was really comfortable. The Old Ship has lots of character and the bar is clearly a favourite with... More

Stopped for one night whilst cycling the Northumberland Coast. Very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and simple. Very much no thrills with character. No food available on Sunday evening so we ate at local restaurant.

Pulled up to rear of property and was a little anxious as it is a little tired. However as you walk in side door you can see that property is being modernised. We had a nice young lad show us to our room. The room was newly decorated with everything you need in the room, complimentary tea, coffee etc, hairdrier... More

I booked this on spec, as it was near to Bedlington, where we wanted to visit. First impressions were not favourable, as whilst the hotel fronts onto the promenade, the appearance from the back, on the main street, is somewhat run-down. We parked in their car park & entered from the other side. We were warmly welcomed and shown to... More

This is a place that is on the up; it is really good to see somewhere getting the attention it deserves. Whilst our first impression, from the back, was not so wonderful (to be fair, anywhere in the wind and rain doesn't look that good) we were pleasantly surprised once we walked round to the front. Our room had a... More

I have stayed at The Old Ship many times and I think it’s FANTASTIC. Its great value for money, always a warm welcome, it’s clean and entertaining in the bar. Jackie works very hard to ensure you enjoy your stay. The Old Ship is defiantly recommended.
