Former stable block converted into 4 self-contained rooms. Nicely furnished with nice touches, ironing board and plenty of sockets. Pub has a roaring real fire, good beers and good food. Breakfast well cooked with nice local ingredients. The host and hostess and all staff I met were very friendly. For the same money as a standard chain, I had a... More

Had lunch here today, would we come again - you bet!! The Chicken Caesar Salad was the best I have eaten, my partner had the Steak and Ale pie which was really good served with proper chips. We had to have a dessert as they served knickerbocker glory, a long lost dessert!!

I booked a table for 6 people to celebrate my partner's 25th birthday and the recent birth of our first child. We were seated and happy, having just finished our starters. One of the party offered to buy 3 shots of tequila (one for each of the men in the party) to celebrate my partner's birthday. He went to the... More

Very welcoming staff and a superb choice of Sunday roast - Beef, Lamb or pork, all served with roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds, which you don't often find unfortunately. Delicious lunch served with plenty of choice in veg. Thoroughly enjoyed by all 4 of us. We will definitely return.

We walked from the next village to this pub at lunchtime today, a beautiful sunny Monday in between Christmas and New Year. Very disappointed after an hour's walking to find it shut, with no indication of opening times on the door or explanation for the closure. We have eaten here before and it was perfectly pleasant, with a good log... More

I go here fairly frequently for both business and leisure. The food is always of a very good, informal standard with a warm welcome. I will continue to visit and am looking forward to the Winter months when the fire will be lit :-)

I had lunch, hadn't been to The Jolly Tar for years and it had some good reviews on Trip Advisor so we thought we would give it a go. My husband and I had homemade steak and ale pie and my daughter had Cajun chicken. My daughter enjoyed her food but she is only 13 and likes simple plain food.... More

A great pub/hotel. I could not fault the staff helpful, polite and courteous. The rooms are stable conversions and the one I was in was rather small but as I was alone so that wasn't an issue. Perfectly clean and well equipped room with parking right outside the door. The bar area had a great selection of drinks on draught.... More

Very welcoming pub with excellent accommodation. Very friendly and helpful staff, food was lovely and freshly cooked, plenty of choice for leisurely breakfast. Would definitely return if visiting the area again.

This charming little pub is worth searching out. It serves some really good pub grub and their beers are well looked after. It works for a simple meal or would be ideal if you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion. The staff are friendly and service is quick and cheerful.
