A great find. Just 15 minutes drive from York with York Minster and the National Railway Museum, to name but two attractions. Close to Castle Howard and RHS Scampston Walled Gardens, and an easy drive to Flamborough Head RSPB reserve and lighthouse, Filey and Scarborough - the location was perfect. Cosy, elegant and friendly hotel with helpful and efficient staff.

This hotel is a Victorian house with 14 bedrooms situated in superb countryside and has just been refurbished. Tastefully decorated, lovely rooms ( we had the middle grade of the three grades of bedroom) and all very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was excellent with breakfast all freshly cooked and we stayed four nights and had... More

Peacfull rural location and the feel of a old English country hotel. You are made to feel most welcome at all times lovely friendly staff. Everything was beautiful. Each room was tastefully decorated. The lounge areas were comfortable with settees & armchairs, but it was the area that was stunning, with views over the fields. Really friendly staff who made you feel as though nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a quiet & peaceful setting.

A group of 11 gents ( for whom I am the organiser ) dined here a few weeks ago. There was much satisfaction with the ambience and catering . Staff were very pleasant and helpful . Wide choice in the set menu of locally acquired food . I particularly liked the free water arrangements ( supplied in Burythorpe bottles), which... More

This hotel surpassed my expectations. We had booked a 'small double' and therefore had a cheaper rate but it was absolutley gorgeous and didn't seem small to us at all. The bathroom was beautiful with Molton Brownn toileteries. The lounge areas are gorgeous and furnished to a very high standard. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely first class. It really... We arrived in the early afternoon and asked if it was possible to have a sandwich. No hesitation and shortly a plate of the best sandwiches we have tasted arrived. What a great start and a good indication of what was to come. All the staff were very attentive and very happy. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and had everything... More

Lovely hotel, with staff that couldn't more for you. Visiting my sister in York we had trouble booking a hotel at short notice on a race weekend but that turned out to be a benefit as this was a jewel in the Yorkshire crown. a refurbished manor house that had a high standard in comfort and service. without any fuss... I booked Burythorpe online and had to prompt them for a confirmation. I should had smelt a rat. The precis; an un-superior room, poor management leading to a clueless, but smiling and friendly team. poor customer service and a dangerous shower. The lodge is warm and exceptional, The public areas have grown old and sophisticated like a well cellared Bordeaux.... More

We took my son and his girlfriend to stay following his graduation and booked two rooms via a bed breakfast and evening meal package on a well known website. It was great. One of our rooms was upgraded to a Luxury room, the place was spotless and comfortable, the food good (perfect poached eggs) and the staff just about perfect.... More
