I have travelled the Dempster on many occasions, particularly in the Winter when the scenery is absolutely stunning. Amidst the wilderness is this wonderful oasis known as Eagle Plains. The welcome you receive is superb, even when the elements outside create mayhem inside with travellers heading for cover. The food I have received has always been fantastic and certainly ample... I notice there is some bad reviews on here about Eagle Plains. Please take into account you are around 400 kms north of Dawson City, which is over 500 kms north of Whitehorse which is....... In other words; your not there to critique the dated room layout, or the phone service. They do an excellent job of providing a necessary... More

It's not like there's any value in complaining here. Drive the Dempster and stay here. It's good. Rooms are good and there's a ton of them. Good was great. 25 bucks for a massive roast beef dinner with all the trimmings (even corn on the cob in october). Loved it. The lady has no sense of how to treat a... More

This was the oasis on our amazing Demster Highway drive, two 70 yr old women very relieved to find gas, pleasant staff, a homey, clean , historic hotel with a delightful bar and restaurant, old but charming decor. You could just imagine it as a meeting place for prospectors, workers, locals, adventurers over many years. Stayed there both ways on... More

To check-in we had to wait quite a while. There was one lady who was responsible for the bar, the dinner in the restaurant and the lobby from the motel. Our room preferences were not honored, the motel was fully booked. Our room was spacious enough and it was clean. You can very lightly hear your neighbor so it is... More

My friend and I drove the Dempster Highway third week of July and loved every minute. We booked a room at Eagle Plains Hotel as it is half-way point and a far enough drive for one day at 60 kms./hr. This hotel built in the 1970s and looks it, but that is part of the charm. It is considered an... More

We stopped here on the way in and on the way back. The first night, I found the lady in the bar a bit rude, it just didn't seem like she wanted us there... but we stayed for a beer. The bar itself is really cool, it's got loads of photos and the story of the mad trapper on the... More

We travelled to Inuvik, and the road was closed so we had to get a room to stay in over night. The staff all seemed really miserable and service in the lounge was horrible. Long waits for food/drinks and help at the front desk. I don't expect fine dining or a fancy hotel room, as it is basically in the... More

My husband and I spent a night here since it was the midway point between Dawson City and Inuvik, NWT. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and the meals were huge!! There is nothing else around so it is very quiet!

First off, I love the Yukon. Second, I love Eagle Plains. If you are looking for pristine lodging do NOT come here. Eagle Plains is a working accommodation. Rooms are basic, but clean. You'll most probably be sharing your stay with long-haul truckers and road crew workers. I have stayed in Eagle Plains at least 6 times over the years.... More
